arguement

Gentlemen:
To help settle an arguement, did Ford ever come out with a dohc 427 motor in a street machine? And if they did, what year?
Also, who had the first 427 engine, Chevy or Ford?
Thank you for your time and efforts.
Sincerely,
Jack McGrath

1. No. They did make a single overhead cam 427, though. I think it came out in 1964 or 65 and the dual-quad version made 657hp. It was not a factory-installed option, however. You had to buy it as a crate engine. I dont know if any were dealer-installed in new cars.

2. I dont know. Ford's pushrod 427 came out in I think 1963.

The 1963-1/2 Galaxie 500 Q-code and R-code and 1964 Thunderbolt had the Ford 427.

Only 100 Fairlane Thunderbolts were partially built by the Ford Motor Company and shipped to Dearborn Steel Tubing for completion. The Thunderbolts were finished as drag race-only machines for Super Stock, Super Stock Automatic, and A/FX class competition.
