New Project: Hamann 360 Modena Spider w/ progress pics (CAUTION! Many images)

Hey guys, I've started another project again. I know that I haven't been very good at finishing any of them as you may have seen in my past postings. This one will need to be finished because I'm being paid to do this one for a customer from my local hobby shop - www.best1hobby.com . The customer wanted an aero kit from Hamann tuning with a lowering job and some aftermarket wheels. The color will be done in Italian red. I don't have the wheelset yet as the shop has not received a shipment on them yet for the customer to choose from.
I've included some images with the styrene sheets cut out waiting to be formed and mounted. There some with the front and rear spoilers done a shaped. the side skirts will be added soon. I've made an extra set of the aero kit already for my own 360 Modena which won't be finished for a while. I'll likely put that wing on top of the engine cover. this one here won't have it. Here's some progess pics with the actual car for reference. -

Is this a Fujimi kit? Why so much mold lines?:p

Tamiya should be very insulted by now with that comment. You should complain to them about that Xenocryst!!! Fujimi? Huh? When did they make a 360 kit? I know Revell should be coming out with one soon. As for the mold lines-I HAVEN'T FINISHED YET! The body requires much more work for me to go and start sanding all the seams. What you see there is after 3 hours of total work from when I first opened up the box.

Hey guys/ gals, I got to work on this again. The last time, I don't think anyone was real interested except for Chris (Flyonthewall).
Well, here's some new pics. http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/784005hamannbody.jpg
This is the rear diffuser:
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/683966hamannrrdiffuser.jpg
The wheels. These things need to be staggered(skinny front, wide rear) I'll just sand the lip on the front rim down to look proper.

Before I forget, I need to thank Chris again for sending me the pics of the proper rear diffuser. I originally made it a tad too deep into the rear. Now its right.:)

Chris, I didn't want the front end to look too weighted down with a thicker piece of styrene. I think on the real car it looks thicker because of the curves - kinda like a small lip at the ends, then tapering towards the inner parts of the bumper. While I was painting, I considered that and tried to duplicate by airbrushing a bit more paint to the very ends of the plastic. This did improve a bit by rounding and thickening. Oh, well there's still gonna be Hamann #2 (mine). This one's being done for a customer. What he doesn't know, won't hurt! As the saying goes-Ignorance is bliss! ;)

Here's a link to a Revell 360 Spider that I did a few weeks ago.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=65804&highlight=revell+360+spider
Its a decent kit, but needs a fair amount of work to look the way it does ( it's worse than a Fujimi kit) You're gonna need to rescribe panel lines. I think the kit wheels are crap, but since you're gonna go with the F50 wheels-toss the stockers.
The kit pieces look easy to make, but they weren't that easy for me! Second time around should be better as I got my own to do. its not easy to keep the short pieces to stay with some of the complex curves. There are curves that don't seem noticable until you put the pre-bent pieces up to the sides. The styrene tends to straighten-and yes I used a little heat. The front splitter was very easy though. Oh....I also used a spoon to help shape sone curves. Try it out!! Might be easier for some of you.

Wow, that looks amazing! The bodykit looks perfect!!!
Yeah, that is slightly too low, spoils the overall look of realism! Go for the tiniest gap between tire and arch. That would be perfect!
Also note the slightly darker shade of silver on the spokes in your reference pictures. It would look great if you sprayed or painted your spokes to differentiate between the rim.

The ride height that you have on your Revell kit is about right.
The model is coming along really well, you should start your own car replicating business (what a perfect job  )
I haven't seen the Tamiya 360 yet, I might have to try find myself one...

835, the styrene sheets were shaped with the aid of a spoon, the model's body and a little heat. The front pic that you have there was done with a metal straightedge or a metal ruler. The pencil marks are just guides in where to place the bends. Practice this method on a scrap piece first!
Thanks for the input guys! I think it needs to be raised to look right. Looks too toyish like that.
Here's a pic of the engine! There's some heat staining of the exhaust done with a brush with a little bit of a wash to bring out shadows on the engine casing.

Daggerlee,
I don't think I'll do that with this one because you can't see those parts once installed. Its for a customer, but if it was mine I would probably paint it. I want to do as little as possible while maximizing my profit.:D I'm a lazy bastard! I think he'll be happy enough with the way it is-otherwise I'll charge more $$$:D $$$.

This one is being done for 200 US dollars. I should have asked for more, but I found out the guy is a busboy/ waiter and he's been saving and patiently waiting for this thing. I usually work with people to be fair and within reason. I would normally ask for about 250 for a build like this. I'm paying for paint and supplies on this one. Usually I make the customer pay for at least 3 colors of paint.
These prices reflect on labor only. Too some it seems like a lot, but for the people in this forum, they know the time and effort invested into one of these projects. When you factor time and materials, I'm only making a little above minimum wage. I enjoy myself quite a bit and allows me to hone my skills.

WK you werent lying about the revell 360. i cleaned up a shit load of mold lines and flash. the F50 wheels seem to tuck under there illl have to cut the wheels bakings to compensate for the reverse offset of the F50s. the body is all good to go next is the aero kit which brings me to the question.
what did you use to heat the sheets of styrene?

Here's the final pics for today. After cooking dinner, I got back to this thing and got the suspension mods done w/ the brake hubs modified to fit the aftremarket wheelset. The wheels in the front were narrowed to look right and the rear diffuser has been taped for a test fit.

I hate to say this, but I told you so!! The sheets were heated with a butane powered soldering iron w/ a hot tip. Heat gun will also work, but be careful because the styrene is very thin. Hairdryer would also work, but takes longer to heat up. Use that if you're inexperienced with shaping plastic. Don't get too carried away on your first try. Good luck dude.
I'm getting tired of working on this thing already! I wanna go do something else.

Here's the Tamiya Hamann next to my Revell 360. Puts it to shame doesn't it? The Tamiya version looks so sexy next to the Revell Spider. What do you all think? See the differences I pointed out in the Revell 360 thread?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!
The kit was finished a while ago, and you should be able to find it in a search

Antonio,
He means the second kit that Walter wanted to build for himself ;) Although I'm pretty sure Walter didn't start it. However, I'm sure we all here want him to!
