Angry 1998 Ford Taurus white smoke from tailpipe

I've been having problems with my 98 Taurus since Monday. It doesn't what to start right away and once it does it seems to idle roughly or sputter. I noticed white smoke from the tail pipe today. A friend said it was unburnt fuel but I'm not sure. Any ideas or comments. Thanks.

blown head gasket. Are you losing coolant? Is the car running hot?

I haven't noticed any coolant or the car overheating yet. I've driven it to work (64 miles R/T) since Monday and have made it back and forth ok. Should I go ahead and take it in before it gets worse or just play it by ear for now?

I had the same problem white smoke from tail pipe, car running rough, even a little liquid (looked like water) dripping out of tail pipe, and my check engine (yellow) light came on. I took my car immediately to my mechanic as soon as the light came on the dash. He said I did the right thing because the more you drive the car the more damage you can do to the engine. My problem was a head gasket and was repaired, but could have been worse if I had to replace the engine at that time. I would take your car immediately to a garage and at least have a mechanic look at it while it's running.

White smoke = coolant.
Blue smoke = oil.
Black smoke = gasoline.

my 92 did that, but baaad! I loved that car until then. at the time I had no garage or money and I was moving so, I had to get rid of it. I felt like an ass coasting home, nobody behind me could see anything. I couldn't afford to have it towed. I wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of it.
