Installing Rear Axle.

I am putting the rear axles back on my 97 Rodeo 3.2L. Besides fastening the 4 bolts to the flange is there something else I should be doing like tapping it in further with a hammer and block of wood or something. It seems too easy considering the difficulty getting it off with a slide hammer. Should I put grease on the splined end of the axle before putting it in the tube?
Thanks.
