f-150 rear brakesgofarm1 12-05-2005, 08:26 PM about a year ago I had front brake work done on my '97 F-150 (new pads ,rotors turned etc). Had the rear brakes checked also. The mechanic said it looked like the back brakes had never worked .The drums were rusted and shoes not worn. I pull a 1000 gal water tank 2-4 times a month. Now I need new front brakes again. Shimmies and shakes again in the front end when you apply the brakes and doesnt stop very quickly ,with or without the water tank .I figure the rears are not working again.Any suggestions to help me stop!! git-r-done 12-05-2005, 11:49 PM our '92 explorer had the same problem, and it was a bad proportioning valve. fordtrucksonly 12-07-2005, 12:47 AM When I replaced my buddies brake system, I found that his rear drums also didnt work. replaced valve, anchor spring, took adjuster out and replaced return spring. Did not have to replace shoes because they had little wear. But all said and done, after we did that, rear brakes worked well. Take drum off and take a look, see if you need to do same. Let me know.
