turn signal flasher 97 lumina

I'm looking for the location of the turn signal flasher for a 97 lumina. Called local chey dealer and they were no help. said somewhere under dash on driver side. took off lower dash panel and turned on turn signal. I can hear a clicking noise but can not find the part. I want to replace this because my left turn signal will not go on, the right works. all the bulbs are good tested them by turning on the Hazard signal...

I called a mechanic friend and he said the flasher is located by the stering column near the brake pedal, have to move a plastic piece to see it will try it and see if its there.

Yeah on the older ones they were clamped around the lower portion of the column, under the knee bolster or kick panel or whatever the hell it's called under the dash.

I suspect it's probably still there on newer models.

If your dealing with a Lumina, they all have the same defect when it comes to the flashers. After you get some miles on the car, engaging the flashers takes a little trick and the left one is usually effected before the right one. When you want to engage the flasher, gently pull the smart stick towards you while your moving it down or up. At first, you'll turn on the high beams, but once you get used to this action, it becomes second nature. If that isn't to your liking, then you'll need to replace the assemply within the steering column. That's no fun. Try it and let me know how you make out.

my blinker works...but way too much. my right blinker flashes at about 5 times the rate it should. i've had this problem before and after a few days it would fix itself. anything i can do to fix it, it's been weeks and no change

Re: turn signal flasher 97 lumina

That usually indicates that you have a blown bulb. Easiest way to verify that is to turn on your emergency blinkers and do a walk about!
