I think it maybe possessed

I ran into my first problem that is has boggeled my mind with my 2000 Sunfire GT.

It was the weirdest thing, my car sat for 3.5 hours after it had run for almost half and hour, I got in it started it drove from one place to another approx 5 minutes of driving. The car wasn’t warm yet. I dropped my Mom off at home turned around in front of her house and the next thing I knew my car surges almost stalls and then it started making this horrid noise, I can’t even describe what it sounded like, it wasn’t a ticking, my like a grinding with a little bit of a scream. So I drove a bit, it was loud at any RPM, I pulled over and popped the hood, and it was coming from the front passenger side of the engine. Closed the hood and it got a quieter. So I started to drive and the noise was only present during idle. So I got it home, it only made the noise while it sat at idle.
So I get into it this morning start it up and let it run before I head off to work, no noise. Drove it the entire way here nothing.

I was thinking maybe the water pump? But the problem seems to have fixed itself. Although I know from my years of owning cars problems that fix themselves always come back with a venegence.

Anyone have any ideas?

sounds like you may have a belt loose, and the grinding may have been the belt ruining one of your bearings (alternator, water pump, etc.)...
