ok i drive a 93 dx sedan (5 spd, cai, catback, 17x7.5 rims), and i had an incident a little while ago w/ a 95-99 eclipse. it wasnt a gst or gsx, but it was lowered, rims, exhaust. anyway, i know n/a eclipses get 140 hp, so i really wasnt lookin to get into it. so we werent really revving engines at each other, but when the light changed, neither one of us let up. idk how, but we were basically neck and neck the whole time until we caught up to the traffic ahead of us (about 1/2 mile). how is this possible? i would have thought it would still smoke me. was the eclipse just messin around w/ me? thoughts?

140hp isn't crap if it's in a heavy ass car

eclipses are around 3000 lbs.

by like 400lbs. And don't let the "4dr" thing fool you, the 4drs are lighter than the 2drs.

DX sedan - curb weight = 2313
DX coupe - curb weight = 2231

are you 100% sure about your statment?

either way, thats still lighter than 3000. i knew the eclipse was heavy, but i didn't realize it was that much different from the 4dr. makes sense tho; i swear my dx has almost zero insulation- them doors are hollow. i suppose that and maybe there was some driver differences, maybe a/t, contributing to the closeness.

Whenever I've seen a discussion about coupe vs sedan weighs, people start posting tons of links, and it's always been in favor of the sedan being lighter. Personally I've never weighed both to find out, and I doubt many people have.

with the same trim level the coupe is going to be lighter because it has only 2 doors. All of the extra crap that has to be installed for a 4 door is going to make it heavier.

just to settle the discussion overall for anyone who searches this up, The whp on an eclipse is just enough to keep the 0-60 about the same as a dx at stock weight. It is possible to beat a stock eclipse rs or gs with a stock civic as long as the civic driver knows what they're doing. I've owned both cars and tested both.

Now that we've established that, let's keep dead threads dead.
