I have a 96 Grand Cherokee limited with a V8. It stalls when I let off the gas i.e. coming to a stop or letting off the gas at low rpms. A few yrs ago it did this and it turned out to be carbon build up, but this feels different. For some reason the rpms go to low and it stalls. Any help would be awsome.

Thanks
Erik

IAC (Idle Air Control) Valve!
Remember to disconnect the battery before removing and replacing the IAC Valve.

Would that make the check engine light come on? My light is not comming on. Just want to check before I replace it.

No, ussually this would not cause the CHECK ENGINE light to come on.

I had an issue with my IAC Valve awhile back, never cause my CE light to come on.

Hey guys,

Similar problem on my 95 JGC Orvis V8 5.2L (188K miles). After idling for a few minutes, if I put it in reverse, give it gas to go, then let off the gas it will stall. Happens in drive but more pronounced in reverse. Someone recommended the IAC which I replaced. The problem still exists but wasn't as bad. I checked, cleaned reset the gap on the plugs also while I was in the engine compartment. Probably about time to replace wires, dist & rotor because it;'s been about 50k miles.

So I came here looking for answers and now I see that everyone says to disconnect the battery before disconnecting/re-connecting the IAC.

You guesed it, I did not disconnect the battery. So, is the new IAC dead now? :banghead:

Also, I saw one post about adjusting the length of the IAC to 1 1/8". I didn't see anything to adjust. Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Carlos

My problem was that the battery was low. It would start the car but the ideal control will not work if upon starting if there is not 10 or 11 volts (not sure which). The guy at the battery shop said this happens on a lot of 5.2 L

I replaced the battery a few months prior to this issue so, it probably isn't a factor in my situation unfortunately.
