Silverado Fuel guage

I have a 98 Z71 Silverado and the fuel guage acts very erratic, it will fluxuate from full to empty and will never go below 1/2 full. Is there a module or reply that can be changed ? I have heard this is not an uncommon problems with late 90 chevy's... Please pass along any help..
to jreato@charter.net Thanks

Re: Silverado Fuel guage

I just bought a 99 used and it does the same thing the lot i bought it from said they would pay half the costs to fix it which they said a new fuel pump/sending unito would fix it but even my part was gonna be like $250 so i told them it would be ok.

mine will be full and someimtes read 1/2 full sometimes empty with the fuel light on then will correct itself going down the road i just reset my trip od. each time i fill up which i do each time i need gas

The fuel pump module was redesigned to fix a factory flaw. If you have dual tanks, you need both.

How would you get the fuel pump module replaced? Dealer? Recall?

You don't need to replace module,,just the fuel level sensor that clips to the side,,,they run about $i50.00 can. and fairly easy to do
