neon stops after 15 milesalta24 12-02-2005, 08:15 AM Hello, I got Neon 1999. I start having problem after driving 10-15 miles and cars just stops. Waiting few min it's starting again and working few min. Seems it's temperature based problem. Computer reading does give any code. Any suggestions will be really helpful. das2123 12-02-2005, 08:45 AM Hello, I got Neon 1999. I start having problem after driving 10-15 miles and cars just stops. Is the temp gauge show that its overheating? alta24 12-02-2005, 10:49 AM Did you mean to say computer does not give any codes? Is the temp gauge show that its overheating? No, it does not show any overheating das2123 12-02-2005, 01:59 PM No, it does not show any overheatingYou did the key dance already right? Some things come to mind: EGR, Torque converter if it's an ATX, timing belt...hard to day though without looking at it. Does the car crank fine and drive ok? Any problems while it is driving? Maybe check the battery connections and make sure they are tight and clean. Check for corrosion on the terminals and in the wires themselves. growe58 12-02-2005, 07:34 PM Not sure if this would apply to a neon, but on an older car that I had, the gas tank vent had become clogged creating a vacuum in the tank. The vacuum would increase as more gas was pumped out of it until the fuel pump could no longer overcome the negative pressure and the car would die. It would restart shortly later as air leaked back in. You could test it by removing your gas cap and seeing if you get a whoosh of inrushing air. However, I would think that the computer would throw a code at you if this was your problem. I remember a Car Talk caller once who called in to complain that his Pinto died after 5 miles of driving and the hosts told him that "it was a safety feature", lol. alta24 12-05-2005, 02:25 PM Not sure if this would apply to a neon, but on an older car that I had, the gas tank vent had become clogged creating a vacuum in the tank. It's staring and driving fine just simply stops without any sound or showing anything on the panel growe58 12-06-2005, 06:58 PM It's staring and driving fine just simply stops without any sound or showing anything on the panel Sooooo when it stops, did you try opening the gas cap and listening for negative pressure (air whooshing in)? A long shot, maybe, but easy enough to check... das2123 12-08-2005, 02:30 PM Try replacing your PCV valve. alta24 12-16-2005, 09:01 AM PCV valve is OK. Opened the gas cap did not gave sound. das2123 12-16-2005, 12:11 PM PCV valve is OK.What do you mean it's OK? Did you replace it? das2123 12-16-2005, 12:12 PM No, it does not show any overheatingHave you checked your coolant level? mechhound 12-17-2005, 01:34 AM When it quits and won't start right away, you need to check and see if you have ignition fire. My favorite and safe way to do this is with a timing light, hook it up in the normal manner and see if it flashes. You will need an assistant with you to operate the starter switch, or else a remote starter switch. This will tell you if you are losing IGNITION or FUEL. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
