Electric Fan?

I've been considering installing an electric fan and cooler thermostat in my 89 Caprice 305 tbi. It runs at 192-195 now. I'd like to put either a 180 or 160 stat in it. Will my mechanical fan keep the temp down with either of the stats I'm considering or will they only work in conjuction with a flex or electric fan. I really do like the idea of the electric fan for less drag on the water pump and motor. The one I like (cheap) from summit racing is a 16" fan with 2200 cfm (puller fan). Will this fan work or is the cfm to low? I drive city as well as highway. It's got a 28" radiator in it now. Stock was 26".

Re: Electric Fan?

you might want something a little bigger for those hot days during stop and go driving. The mechanical fan will work fine to keep the temperature down if you want to keep it.
