So my friend just got his license, and drove to school today. Being the trash talker that I am, I called him out. Okay, his ride? A 1983 Chevy S10 LWB 2wd. 2.8L V6, with aftermarket headers, true dual exhaust, and modified intake.

After school, we decided to have a little highway romp. After playing some cat and mouse, we finally broke thorugh the traffic.

We paced eachother at 55. His is a manual 4-spd, mines an Automatic. I figured I'd punch it first, just to even the manual advantge out. It was pretty even for the first few seconds, then I just started to walk away. Now heres the funny part. I have a 110mph Limiter (Which I've hit before. With the speedometer, right around 107-110 mark). This time, It felt like I was going faster, so I checked my speedometer, and I was pegged at 120. WTF?! It never hit the limiter/cut off.. and it wasnt like it was down hill or anything. (Maybe a tail wind, but i doubt it?) Anywho, I decided to get on the binders, and by then, had over a buslength on my friend.

The 2.8L S-10 is hardly anything fast at all. That engine doesn't like mods too well either. All its good for is towing a few things here and there. I think that engine was rated at 110hp, or close to.

I have respect for the S-10's that have v8's in them. As a matter of fact, I hope someday I can afford an S-10 and swap in a 350.

Maybe your spedometer was inaccurate?

On hot days my speedo shows like 2-3 mph over what it would show on a cold day at the same rpm.

yeah i wasnt trying to defend him racing the truck... i was saying its a torquey motor cause its meant to haul stuff, not race. plus i know its a torquey motor cause i have a celebrity with the same motor.
