Hello again everyone!
Got a new/continuing problem with the 91 Grand Am with 2.5L engine. Orginally, it stalled on my wife, and would not start again, I changed out the fuel pump because it looked to be getting gas at the TBI, but the fuel pressure was low, but after that it still wouldn't start. For some reason after all else failed, I thought I'd do what I did in the old days as a kid and I put alittle raw gas down the intake and it tried to run. I then went to get a used TBI out of the salvage yard, and it ran ok I thought. So much for the history, Now for the new problem, Sometimes, especially when it is chilly out and the engine is cold and getting started for the first time in the day, it will do what sounds like a little backfire thru the tbi and then stall after it starts and when you press on the gas pedal. Seems like it does a little shudder if you don't press on it, but then smooths out. If you just let it run for a few minutes, it won't hickup and stall, but if you try to push it, it will do this 2 or 3 times to you. It didn't do this all the time at first, but now that it is colder, like the blizzard conditions today, it does it all the time until it gets warmed up. Also, it doesn't start right up, seems like it has to crank for a while. I found that a 2 second burst, then wait a second, then, crank again and it starts up better also. I would look into The ignition wires and the spark plugs, It sounds like it's not getting enough spark causing it to stall out and not run right. Also Check your valve cover make sure it's not leaking too much oil down onto the spark plugs, that's a common way the plugs go bad on the 2.5 if it is, just tighten the bolts on the valve cover for a temporary fix until you can put a new gasket on.
