found a gtp for sale

i finally found a 2000 gtp for sale close enough to go and see.i found it on ebay Item number: 4591959066. so i drove out to look at it, and then it got interesting. it was a used car dealership, and they were your typical used car dealers.general look over of the car was great, looked new. i looked under the hood and noticed some smoke puffing up from the exaust manifold in front of the motor almost under the oil fill. i asked about it and was givin the runaround about it not running for a few days. i know better.since i spent the better part of the day i figured no sense in wasting the trip, so i took it for a test drive.i must admit it drove quite well, but i didnt want to get all on it with the dealer in the car with me.we got back to the lot and the dealer tried getting me to sign right there. no. i popped the hood to find big clouds of smoke. i said it looked like the valve cover gasket was leaking and he agreed.he said it would be replaced before i picked it up. i recalled the buy it now price online being $6,990. he said no it was $7,699. i didnt argue because i was not %100 sure since i have been looking at a few. long story short i left and said id call monday. i get home and check ebay, he was right $7,6990. then i checked my cookies and found the buy it now was $6,990 and was changed while i was standing on the lot.this place left a very bad taste in my mouth, and now im back to square one. i would now prefer to buy in a private sale.that crooked clown had everything but the $20.00 suit. buyers beware

Re: found a gtp for sale

Leaking valve cover gaskets are not new and usually don't mean anything regarding the performance of the vehicle or even the maintenance.

You were quite right to leave this one alone especially since he used the old bait and switch with the price. Same vehicle different price. Keep looking you will find one. Try autobytel or autotrader.com, you should be able to fine one there.

Re: found a gtp for sale

sounds like a crook to me....I had a similar situation...when i looked at car, valve cover and oil pan was leaking..i negotiated price Before i mentioned the leaks. He reluctantly agreed to fix the problems.. A week after i got the car i noticed tires had dryrot, problem w/ steering and a leaking PS pump...Brought car back and guy was pissed, saying at this point he didnt make any money off the car, and said he would give me my money back instead.. I told him OK....After that he agreed to fix all....Alot of dealers get these cars needing work. They will do as little as possible, to make more profit. The prices they ask represent a car that has been re-conditioned and needs no work. I would suggest getting a car from a private party. You will get it alot cheaper. Only difference is there is no warranty...Bring a good mechanic to look over the car
