Angry intermitten starting problems gtp

I have a 98 gtp and just recently i have been having intermitten starting problems. When this first happened the first thing I checked was fuel pressure. I depressed the fuel line schrader there was some pressure but after I cranked it again there was none, but I could hear the pump priming. I brought it into Jacobs twin dealership for warranty repair. They said it was the fuel pump, said they relaced it and sent us on our way. The next day the same problem happened, so I brought it back. They had the car over a week said it needs to die on them. They told us it died but they were not able to figure out why and agian sent us on our way. Sure enough it happened again the next day. this time i checked for spark by pulling the #6 wire from the coil then cranked it over. When I did this the car began to try to start and did start on 5 cylinders. I put the wire back on and it ran fine. The problem happened again, so i tuned it up with Iridium delco plugs and delco wires because it has 72k and was over due. today it happened again. It seemed like after sitting overnite it woldn't start. I am starting to lean towards a ignition problem because when I turned the key all the way it wouldn't start but by just barely turning the key (closer to the on position than to the start position) I was able to get I started. So if ANYONE Can help Please do so . I don't know where to turn now because the dealer can't even fix it. Thanks a bunch!

Re: intermitten starting problems gtp

You may still have a fuel pressure problem possibly caused by a bad fuel pressure regulator (FPR) or fuel pump resistor. To properly test fuel pressure an automotive fuel pressure tester should be hooked up to the Schrader valve. A GTP will read 45 - 55 psi with vacuum connected at the FPR. With vacuum disconnected at the FPR and ignition in the run (fuel pump prime) position it should read a solid 48 - 55 psi, normally around 52 psi or better.

If you are losing spark the possibility is a defective crank position sensor (CKPS) or ignition control module.

Finally, you could have a worn out ignition switch assembly cutting off or not making IGN MAIN 1 & 2 12v to the starter, ignition circuits and fuel pump relays.

It's located behind the passenger side headlight, inner fender. See link below:

Plus there is a bypass/troubleshooting procedure for Relay #14 for the '98 model contained within. Good luck!
