1988 MR2 will not run

I have a 1988 MR2 with 180,000 miles. Baught it with 170,000 on it. I have had no problems with it until now. General maintenance was always performed (oil changes, spark plug change, etc). This weekend though I over-heated on my way home. I let it rest and got it home. Once I parked it I cannot get it to start again. Fuel is flowing and we are getting sparks from the plugs. Battery is new. It wants to turn over, but will not. Every fourth attempt to start it turns over, chugs for a second and then dies. Any suggestions are appreciated.

compression check, could be a blown head gasket or any number of internal problems.
