Whining/Wheezing sound on acceleration + driver side winshield wiper fluid

Hi,

I've noticed this problem for the past few weeks, but while I was stuck in traffic today it seemed that I really noticed it at low speeds and it started to bother me.

Basically it sounds like my engine is wheezing or whining when I accelerate, more so at low speeds. As I said before, I noticed it when I was driving from Texas to Illinois. But it seems like it might be worse now. I dont notice it when I put the car in reverse, but that doesn't mean its not happening, just not be as pronounced so I dont notice it.

Other issue I have is that no windshield wiper liquid is ejecting from the driver's side hose? Its fine on the right hand side of the car though and in the rear of the car.

Thanks.

1998 Isuzu Rodeo with 49,500 miles.
I just had my car in the isuzu dealership 4-5 weeks ago before I drove up to Illinois.

Have you looked under the hood to see if the tubing to the driver's side nozzle is kinked or looks plugged? If you don't see anything visually you can try swapping the nozzles to see if it is as simple as a clogged nozzle (~$5 part). Worst case is you'll have to replace a piece of washer tubing or a nozzle.

Additionally, if you have just gone from Texas to Illinois you may have washer fluid frozen in the tubing (assuming you don't have windshield de-icer in the reservoir).

Some Power Steering pumps on these vehicles are known to whine. If dealer did any work that requires removing or adjusting drive belts, then this could aggravate a pump that is prone to whining. Mine whined from day one off the dealer lot, but dealer says its normal. I've since replaced the pump with a used one off ebay, and whine is gone. Used to whine at around 2200 rpm. Stops whining below or above that point. If whine can be heard accelerating with car in PARK, then most likely a belt-drivin component causing the sound.

I'm thinking it is the intake manifold gasket ... Air is being sucked in where it shouldn't be.

I can't say I've ever read any post on bad power stearing pumps on +98's before.
