(84 is rated at 163 hp) HLandin 11-26-2005, 08:01 PM On big reason is the use of hydraulic roller lifters starting in 1987 and a boost in compression (atleast for the Caprice 9c1 350-cid). This bumped the HP on all motors (HP on Caprice 350 jumped 25HP to 180HP). silicon212 11-26-2005, 10:19 PM HLandin nails it. The '84 had an 8.5 c/r and the '88 a 9.3 c/r. Along with hydraulic roller lifters, which were good for a 5-hp boost alone. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
