97 Rodeo: Runs rough

I have a 97 Rodeo with 92,000 miles. This morning I started my truck and I noticed it was running unusually rough. When I would stop at a light it would run rough, and then I would step on the gas and it would run rough and sluggish. I got to work and parked and then I started the truck up again, but this time the CEL came on. I started to drive and the CEL would start flashing. Still running rough and sluggish. Any suggestions on what the problem is?

Take it to autozone and they will read the CEL light for free and that will give you some idea. I had a similar problem with my 97 rodeo. I forget the code that was being thrown but it was a random misfire. The coil pack on number 5 cyclinder went bad and had to be replaced if I remember correctly.

Re: 97 Rodeo: Runs rough

Sounds like an ignition problem. How old are the plugs in it?

Well there are no AutoZone's in the madison area .... (I live there) ...

I would suggest heading to Harbor Freight on the west side and picking up a code reader (30-40 bucks). If you take anywhere to have the codes read it will cost 50 bucks.

FLashing CEL meaning a misfire problem

So we need more info on the plugs, and codes and we can help.
