I had the same prob with a 528e

Your not alone. I had the same problem with an 86 528e. We finally figured out it was a short with the instrument cluster. The smoke travels through the ventilation system. I had a friend that had an M5 and the same thing happened except it was the climate control. If your handy, take out the Dash(not an easy task puttingit back in)and find the source.I would recommend taking it to a service tech. or you may be roasting M5 flavored Marshmellows! By the Way...my friends My friends M5 Did burn up, so I would hurry.:smoka:
