Flasher.
I've heard this problem on other impalas, and figured someone here might know.
I believe that my flasher is going, because occasionally the turn-signals won't work. I'll have to put on my 4 ways for a second, and then try again. That usually works.
But I cannot find the flasher in this car. I've looked in every fuse box possible.
Does anyone know where the flasher is located?
edit: I have a 2001 if that makes a difference.

You need to change your hazard switch. That is for sure the problem. some cars get this fixed on a recall it depends on your serial # of coarse i had to pay. (Go figure)

Re: Flasher.
Help me understand something.
If his emerg. flashers (hazard lights) work and he is having trouble with his turn signals, how does that indicate a bad emerg. (hazard) flasher switch?

Re: Flasher.
mine does the same thing. don't think there is a recall on this.
seems there is a diy procedue on impalahq.com, but I'll wait until it's worse enough.

I dont know how the turn signals and hazards relate to each othr but for SURE if you chane the hazard switch your turn signals will work.I learned this on this site when i had the same problem.I went to the dealer and they said it was my hazard switch and that certain serial #s were covered on a recall my was not.But they replaced the hazard switch and all has been fine since it was about $150

$150?! efff that.
i'll deal with hitting my 4-ways button for them to work again.

Yes they are crooks. And i lived with it for over 18 months. But my youngest kid got his learners permit and hitting flashers on and off to get turn signal was to much stress for me to take in the passengers seat.So i caved in to the dealerI had one garage tell me it was the multi function switch (WRONG) lucky i didnt change that for nothing.

Re: Flasher.
the hazard switch and signals run from the same unit...if u disconnect the hazard switch, u'll notice ur singals don't work....try to find the hazard unit online and swap it out urself...the hardest part is taking off the dash plate (an easy job)...that is, if the dealer won't cover the cost of the job. I wouldn't pay $150 for it, I'm sure u can fint the flasher unit online or at a salvage shop cheap enough, and all u need is a philips screwdriver to do the work....est. 20 min for a beginner

had same problem on my 01 imp. found that i didn't have to remove any of the dash to change it. Just broke off the outer cover of the old switch, grabbed the housing with a pair of pliers, and gently but firmly worked it out of the dash. The new switch then just popped back in. Just don't forget to hook the wire harness.

Re: Flasher.
I figured out also that the flasher unit was the whole hazard switch. I would turn on of the blinkers on and just feel the hazard switch and i could feel the ticking sound, but i took it to a dealership and had it replace under warranty.

The dealership charged me to change mine in my 01 ls.They said only certain serial #s were covered on recall and mine wasnt.I kinda felt that was a BS story. How old was yours and how many miles when they covered it under warranty?
