vtec engine??grimmis 11-14-2005, 02:55 PM Ok i bought a 1991 integra ls. they come stock with a b18 motor. i later found out that the previous owner had replaced the whole engine with another b18 and it sounds and feels like i am hitting a vtec when i race. how do i tell if it is a vtec motor or not?? CivicSpoon 11-14-2005, 03:26 PM Does the valve cover say VTEC on it? Check the engine code and see what it says (b18a, b18b, b18c1). Schister66 11-14-2005, 03:33 PM or if someone can find a pic to go along w/ this....there is a VTEC solenoid on the head near the distributor... Ace$nyper 11-14-2005, 04:09 PM or if someone can find a pic to go along w/ this....there is a VTEC solenoid on the head near the distributor... amen vavle covers can have it shaven off not like i know anyone who'd do that :evillol: superbluecivicsi 11-14-2005, 05:15 PM R.s.D 11-14-2005, 06:18 PM noobie question : where is the engine code stamped? CivicSpoon 11-14-2005, 07:46 PM On the front of the block, where the block meets the transmission, there is a flat plate with the code on it. 4th and 5th posts in this thread will show you: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=475602 Schister66 11-15-2005, 04:53 PM vavle covers can have it shaven off not like i know anyone who'd do that :evillol: You wouldn't do that would you Ace.....:p grimmis 11-16-2005, 02:16 PM Does the valve cover say VTEC on it? Check the engine code and see what it says (b18a, b18b, b18c1). It has a blue after martket cover on it that just has the honda sign on it. looks nothing like the stock cover. no words or anything but the symbol CivicSpoon 11-16-2005, 02:24 PM Then check the engine code on the front of the block to be sure. Schister66 11-16-2005, 03:35 PM was there a VTEC solenoid or not?? wildryno69 11-17-2005, 02:59 PM No it didn't have a solenoid on it so it must be a non-vtech, but if i wanted to add one, would it be a pain in the ass? and would it be costly, and what are some of the downfalls if i can install it. also keep in mind that im doing a complete bulid up new ecu, tranny, block, etc. CivicSpoon 11-17-2005, 03:16 PM Great, another noob who feels the need to have more than 1 user name. Do a search, it's been covered countless times. Hell, even do a Google search and you'll find all the info. And you can't just add a vtec solenoid to a non-vtec block, it doesn't work like that. Schister66 11-17-2005, 04:00 PM search LS/VTEC...... wildryno69 11-18-2005, 12:19 PM ok #1 I only have one username #2. you'll have to excuse me because im new to this site. #3. i thought that this site was for ppl who have hondas and intgeras and need some help. up to now i've been seeing alot of ppl that have been real rude. with certain exceptions. If you can't help or simply dont want to help then dont post anything. any way thanks to all who give positive input. kornflakes28546 11-18-2005, 12:54 PM this thread has confused the hell out of me... wildryno the way you jumped into the thread made it seem like you and grimmis are the same people, so im with civicspoon... and if you search LS/VTEC it will have more info about the conversion than you'd even want to know. integrawhat 11-19-2005, 03:05 AM yeah so grimmis and wildryno are different people im a little confused too. but anyway the engine code wouldnt necissarily tell you if it has a VTEC (no H) head. vtec heads have taller valve covers than the ls heads and i dont think that an ls valve cover (after market or stock) would fit on the vtec head. you could always take off the valve cover and look at the cam lobes, but uh checkin for the solonoid should be good enough (dont think any one would remove the solonoid from vtec head) superbluecivicsi 11-19-2005, 05:23 AM its as simple as this. if you want vtec and if you have a b series motor with a non vtec longblock, your options are. 1. go ls/vtec or 2. buy a vtec b series longblock. now you have vtec. PS: trolls are not tolerated on any forums you will come across. the search function on the forums will yield you your answers. Schister66 11-19-2005, 11:37 AM there was a great LS/VTEC site found earlier this week or last weekend and if you search you will find it and that will help you immensely superbluecivicsi 11-19-2005, 01:48 PM vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
