Check Engine

I'm gonna start of by saying i really dont know anything about cars. My car is Chevy Cavalier 2002. 4 Doors.

Yesterday night i was driving my car and i notice that Check Engine Light was on(the orange light thing http://www.warrantyweek.com/images/check-engine.jpg ). It didn't blink it was just on.

I had some problems with the Check Engine before about 1 year and months ago. I notice the same light. My cousin told me to check the oil level. It was almost empty. The problem was that my car was leaking oil. It got resolve by adding a plastic pack thing that was missing. And of course i added new oil and gas filter and air fliter aswell. From there i didn't had any problems. No leakage.

So, yesterday i though maybe it was the same problem as before. So i waited like 40 mintues and i check the oil level. It was full. I also check today in the morning and still full. The light still on. When i turn on the car, the check engine lights turns on first and then the rest. Check Engine lights stays on.

I haven't change the oil, and some filters like a year ago. Could that be the problem? I hardly use the car about 1 or sometimes 2 times per week.

The car works fine. Doesn't waist too much gas.

Anyone know or have any ideas of what the problems could be?
