If it's a 4 cylinder yes a valve adjustment can be done, if it's a V6 no valve adjustments. $300.00 for a valve adjustment????? That's a complete RIP-OFF, the dealer will do if for cheaper. Typically a valve adjustment is 1.0hr of labor ($75 per hour at my shop, $98 per hour at Honda) plus a valve cover gasket.

I need to replace my valve cover gaskets, and thus have to take off my valve cover. I assume this would be a good time to do valve adjustments

does my 93 accord need this done?
if so, is there a good guide on how to do this?

Yep, good time to do it. You can check out a Chilton Manual from library. All you need to know are

1. Order of valves to adjust
2. Clearances for intake and exhaust valves

You will need to turn crank shaft manually for each cylinder. And you need a set of feeler gauges.

ARe you saying that they still use solid valve lifters post 1985 (other than racecars)? I've done it on older cars using the Go-No-Go method whereby the engine has to be idling at the time. But it should'nt take more than an hour if the mechanic knows what heshe is doing.
