A couple of photos of the Peugeot 205 T16 Evo2 I am building at the moment.

One showing the modified Tamiya rear body with spoiler removed the other showing the body mocked up on the chassis complete with new resin rear wing.
I still have a lot of work to do although the basic engine structures are finished and in place and the cockpit area is coming along.I hope to have the rolling chassis completed in the next week or so and can then turn my attentions to the bodywork.
My intention is to model car number 5 (Juha Kankkunen) from the 1986 Lombard RAC Rally.I will post more pics as I make progress.

A couple of progress pics the cockpit area is now installed and the engine has only a bit more to add before it is completed.

Hopefully going to turn my attention onto the body now.The rear cowling is primed and the front is nearly ready for primer.I will post some progress pics of the body work soon.

What engine you are using? I think you could get some engine/readend parts from Tamiyas 405 Dakar. I've got that Heller Ev2 (http://www.fcma.fi/Kuvat/index.php?folder=/Kayttajat/Petri%20Piira/Peugeot%20205/) , but i didn't even try to make any changes, too much work needed for engine.

Resin rear wing looks nice, Heller has too small.. Sometimes difficult to get good ref pics because some T16 models are converted to Ev2 (only wings added), but engine is little different :uhoh:

Yeah, but if i see correctly he still has the rear truss between the two suspension turrets, and the beam connecting this to the shell, while this whole structure should've been replaced by a tubular frame. But he'll probably change that anyway...

http://homepage2.nifty.com/KEN-RALLY/86tdc205t16ev2-1.htm
is a good example of his steve's build will turn out.
Everytime i see how good that guy Ken is, it makes me wanna quit modeling and cry.

It is the renaissance transkit. What you get is excellent quality. The resin parts are really good and the photoetch sheet is excellent as are the decals.
You don't get everything though. The suspension isn't included at all so the tamiya stuff needs correcting.I think the tubular parts refered to earlier are the different roll cage elements,as the references I have still show the white side sections on the bodyshell although maybe a touch thinner.

Here is the pic I have showing the side section on the body.

(pic)

In the tamiya kit the side bar-like structure is an edgy triangular beam, whereas on the e2 that is just an extra flap of the kevlar sidepanel, there to align the rear cowling when closed. So in the e2 the tubes are not only part of the safety cell, but also the mounting point for suspension engine etc.
That's what i ment, but maybe i overlooked something in your first pic.
But about the transkit, do they give all the engine parts, and do they include references and such? Because those window vents look like a pain to have to fabricate yourself!
Sorry for the inquiry, But i'm thinking of buying this TK and 90 euro is a lot of money..

No Problem happy to help. Here is a scan of the parts list as comes with the transkit.
You get everything you need to make an excellent model including those window scoops in vacformd clear, resin engine parts to assist you with the engine, mudflaps the list goes on.If you're thinking of doing the Evo2 the transkit is well worth the money and will save you a lot of scratchbuilding of parts. You also get some colour printed images of the interior and engine etc on another sheet and full decal placement instructions. If you need any more info just ask.

Oh no !! never do that !
the 405 engine is a "grand raid" engine, and is different of the one used in rally.

The rally 205 T16 had three types of engine, in fact three version of the same engine.
the first was used in its first rally, in France, in 1983.
the second was used on evo1 and the third was used on the evo 2.
the air admitting system is the main difference.

but as some notice that point, the Evo 2 was also different by its chassis...
to convert correctly the evo 1 into an evo 2 you have to cut the rear arch crossing the engine section.
I should have some pics of the building of the real car somewhere...

I am precisely trying to find back all that concerns this car because I am still planing to build the 1985 MC for the eighties contest...
but I can't find enough time nor energy coming back from work...

Hi Steve great work so far.
I have this kit to build but I have the Studio27 trans kit. The engine and the windows can be used ok from the 405 but you do not us all of it.
I will keep watching this one.

Humm Humm
some don't believe me but...
the only things you can use from 405 engine is what is common to both models, so what is already in the 205 kit and don't need to be changed...!!
So no need to use 405 engine to modify 205 one !
you'd better do buying a Renaissance TK than a 405 GR...

here is the only "grand raid" engine mounted in a 205 T16 Evo2... Even the Peugeot museum made the mistake !! :screwy:
in fact this engine seems to be the one of the 1987 Dakar version.

Puffyrs, more than this, some of your pics in your website don't match the good references !!
pics 33, 37 and 38 for example aren't evo1 pics but serie 200 pics !
and the first on the page seem to show an historic car...
but what a great collection of pics !! congratulations !! :)

well, and now, talking about rear structure, pics are better than words !

Yes, Rallymaster, that's exactly what i meant in my first post, thanks for putting it into something more comprehendable.
IIRC Klein's Rally Cars book (which my library has on the shelf, strangely) has 6 pages on the T16 E1 and 2, with about 4 of them of the peugeotsport works(the 3rd 5th and 6th of your photo's). A rallymodeling bible and very helpful, as internet pictures usually tend to be a bit blurry.

No Problem happy to help. Here is a scan of the parts list as comes with the transkit.

Thanks a lot for the scan! Do they also add the scoop that travels from the rear quarter windows along the rear window to the intercoolers (can't see it on the parts list)? And do they include the (very different indeed) wheelwells? And how's the colors of the decals, i heard the blue was a tad off..
Either way, I guess I won't be eating till december, I've got to get that transkit..

Anyway, no more threadjacking on my part, let's see your engine setup!

Yes no problem, don't worry I wasn't playing the judge !!
I follow Ken's building too...
about the 205 T16 Evo2 he used the tamiya engine because he was bulding a heller basis.
this man is a master modeller, but pay attention he is somtimes wrong too ! to convince yourself take a look at the color he chose for his renault maxi 5 diac !!
but I love the way he try to make his models looking like real ones ! :bigthumb:

My photo gold mine is most issued from :
"Rally" - Rheinhard Klein - Könnemann editions.
"Rally cars" - Rheinhard Klein - Könnemann editions (sold out, or sometimes very expensive on ebay or on rallies...).
"205, l'histoire d'un défi" - Jean Todt & Jean Louis Moncet - Flammarion (sold out, 1985 book !).
"Groupe B, les voitures interdites" - Michel Morelli - ETAI (available in french books retailers, as www.fnac.fr for example).
"rallye Jahrbuch" (84, 85... etc) - Dieter Scharnagl - Copress (sold out new but often on www.ebay.de).
"l'année rallye" (84, 85... etc) - authors depending on teh year - ACLA editions.
my personnal photo collection !! especially those I could take with special authorization in the Peugeot museum in Sochaux (even if they made mistakes themselves in re-building their cars...)
such websites as your excellent one !! for sure I love it, every rallye fan and especially Gr. B cars may to !
do you allow downloading pics ?

You don't get the air scoop in the transkit,or the rear wheel wells.I have attempted to modify the Tamiya ones with plasticard to give a representation of the shape but its not easy.I will try to add the scoop that goes round the rear windows as well.I have also made a new exhaust from brass tube and a radiator for the rear and a few other bits as well. You must also make the rear section of roll cage yourself too.
The decals look fine to me.although I must confess I am not an expert on Peugeot blues. It is more of a blue than the Tamiya decals, but I think once they are on the car they will look good.

Here's an overall shot of the engine area, placed next to the Evo 1 for comparison.I still have a fair bit of work to do though, but it is progressing slowly.I think the engine top should have been gold not red but the pic I had for reference was red,you live and learn.More pics as I make progress.

I really like that exhaust, too, i love how you did the shading and weldmarks. And you made those wheelwells really well!

The inkjet decals are not too bad.I printed them on white decal paper and it is a bit see through but as it's going on a white background it's not that big a problem.I don't think they would be much good going over a dark background though.I only made them because I wanted to do the 1986 RAC (my home rally) and because I wanted to do Juha Kankkunen's car.

Here's a couple of pics of the front. The model is nearing completion.Just needs those elusive roof decals and a quick tweak here and there.

The Peugeot mask is actually a decal. It comes on the Renaissance decal sheet.

Hi Steve
I think it says North Central.

hi Steve,
I confirm, puffyrs is right, that's "North Central".

Would a 1/43 decal copy help you ?
that was on the car in the 85 RAC...

Congratulations for your T16 !

Bye
Phil
