'96 3.8 vs '04 Ram 1500 HEMI ??
Ok guys, Ive wondered this for a while, and I cant really find numbers on the truck, time wise. So I was wondering, if me and him raced, what would I be up against. I got a stock 3.8, and he's got the stock 5.7 Quad Cab.
Camaro-
200hp, 225lb/ft
weight- 3300ish?
A4
Ram-
345hp, 375lb/ft
weight- 5500ish?
A5
I realize hes got a lot more power than me, but with all that weight, wouldnt it hold him back? I know top end wise he'd be coming like a bat out of hell, but it a quarter mile, whats he got on me? Thanks in advance for your guys' brilliance, I read the forum everyday, but Im not a pro since I just got my camaro recently, meaning I cant help many people, so I dont post much.

hemi > 3.8
He is heavy but he has a hell of alot more power then you. He'll win off the line and in the end.

Yeah, you're going to get smoked if you race the guy.. i've gone up against a Hemi before and man! Those can go fast.. if you race him, prepare to lose, so dont make any bets if this isnt for fun.

Re: '96 3.8 vs '04 Ram 1500 HEMI ??
It's up to gear ratios and transmissions/drivers. If he has a shitty gear ratio he will have shitty acceleration... Also the ram SRT-10 is a whole different monster, it has a Viper V10 and Viper T56 6-speed transmission. I don't know why anyne woudl even mention one when the questin is about a normal 1500.
I say race him and see, I haven't raced one so i don't know.

Ok, don't race the hemi, you will lose.
Also, off topic, but Never race a diesel, 600+ hp/tq is'nt that big of a deal in a diesel...

Alright, well Ill throw in the fact the kid got his license last week, but you guys seem to be sure of the hemi winning, I guess im gonna have to get some mods, my dads good friends with the owner of a junkyard, what would you guys recommend? I want to get a supercharger (most gm 3.8 s/c's will work right?), new exhaust system, what else should I get?

Re: '96 3.8 vs '04 Ram 1500 HEMI ??
you are thinking of the blower on the GTP and Regal GS?? if so there are many different internals between that engine and ours. Also you won't fit it without cutting the cowl and windshield.
Check out www.fullthrottlev6.com for a good idea of what people are doing with v6's

Rally you have obviously never really raced, the launch is key, and you dont just mash the gas and go.

Yeah Ive heard that the best idea is to rev up to 2000rpm while holding the brake and on the takeoff let off brake and floor it, is that a good idea? kinda like a tq converter?

He wasnt talking about racing, he just said he got his liscence a week a go, and with that much HP over the Camaro I dont think he has to get much of a good launch.
