my friend is interested in buying a trans am. Now he doesnnt have $20-23,000 to go for a mint condition one but has around 10 12 thousand for a 98-02. He was wondering since the miles on the car would be a little high, ARE TRANS AM REALIABLE CARS???? Should something go wrong is it expensive to fix... as well as maintainance (not gas). and are they fast and powerfull to blow most things off the road with a few mods. I told him as much as i could but wanna get ur opinions.

They are reliable as long as they are stock and maintained.

Also....how was it treated?? You will never know.

If he looks hard enough he should be able to find a non-WS.6 Trans Am from 98-00 with 40K miles for a good price.

shoot 10-12 grand eh? that actually a good chunk of cash to play with. if you shop carefully you maybe able to find what you are looking for for that price. now if you wanted a third gen you could easily get a trans am in incredible condition with money left over to make it crazy fast. oh, that reminds me, i was checking out trans ams a little while ago and i found one here in the rochester area with 76k on it for 8900. i believe it was a 95 or 96. just to give you an idea.
