I have a 1989 chevy s-10, with seats in the back and i wanted to install a nice sound system. Only one little problem, I still want the seats in the back to be used, but I also want to throw a sub or two back their. I also would know where to put a amp either, cuz the space is very limited. I kinda figured i should throw on a bed cover and toss all the equipment back there, but im not sure if thats the best idea...any help or recomendations here?

It all depends on what you want with your system, a good sound quality system, or you just want to be a basshead. First you have to figure out what you want from it. If you just want a litte extra bump to your music, I would thow a Sound Splinter RL-I 8" in it, sealed, and a couple hundred watts, that would add some nice low end. Couple of Resonent Engineering RE 8's would also be awsome. Don't think that just because 8's are small they don't have any output, people have gotten awsome numbers out of 8's.

You can easily fit a 5ft^3 box in the extend cab, good for a couple ported 12's. All depends on how much you want to spend, and what you want with your music.

When I had my system, I hid the amp under the sub box.

If you put your stuff in the bed, you will have to do a blow through, and I don't think you want to do that, because then when you go to sell it, there is a hole in the back of the cab, and you have to sell it with subs in it, and judging from your question, your not that big of a basshead.

Ok, I just read your year of truck as a 89, for some reason I read a 98. Factory 89 Sound system's suck (I have one). What I would do if I was to do it again is this.

1. Fiberglass Kickpanels, and put some good components in it, CDT's, Rainbows, etc.

2. 2 Sound Splinter RL-I 8"s in sealed boxes, custom so you can stil use the jump seats, make a custom amp rack somewhere in the back, possibly false floor for it, with plexiglass top and cooling fans. You cant fit any amps under our seats.

3. (oughta do this before everthing...) Sound Deadon the crap outa that truck, doors, floor back, headliner, everything.

Hope this helped a little, or if it was just an idiot rambling on, my bad

Just a thought, but has anyone ever tried making a sub box that doubles as a seat?

I would imagine that it might give you the best of 2 worlds

Someone mentioned one that he made for his truck that was a seat, had seatbelts and everything, for the life of me I can't remember what forum that was on or the guys name....

YDW, If you can design a full functional seat with the subs built right in. And win a soundoff with it, you can probably market it.

I seriously believe that the factory should make a setup like that offered as an option

actually I think thats a great idea if its possible. Do u think i can set everything up to make a seat/sub? I dont ever have fat people in the back so it doesnt have to be a heavy duty sub, so i dont know how much i can get away with that. i talked to a guy at an audio store and he said the best i could probably do is put in a 10" and make whoevers in the back deal with it. Oh btw i tend to listen to very heavy metal ;) so any recomendations of what kind of set up to have the BOOM on the double bass pedal like mad with the crisp noise for the guitar and symbols?

Well if you make the boxxes into seats you can easily fit 2 10" subs back there. And probably even fit 2 12" subs back there.

And that's keeping to the box spec's

most 10" subs require somewhere around 1 cubic foot of internal space.

Your rear passengers might be sitting a little higher.

If you do a google search you should find some sites that'll help you with the box calculations

for that kinda music , i would reccommend 1 oe 2 10's , in a sealed box , not band pass or ported , they blur out the bass to lo0ng and to much to makea wicked double bass sonud good , dunno what brands OBP is talkin about but i have some ridculous infinity stuff , and wont buy anything else now , plus , they have a sub you might like already , small , self powered , and loud as heel , they call it the bass link , and its very space conservative , check em out at www.infinitysystems.com

When said you don't know what kind of brands OBP was talking about, I think you ment me, since Overboard didn't say brands. www.reaudio.com www.soundsplinter.com. There are brands that aren't sold in stores that quite honestly destroy anything in bestbuy and most local stores. My advice would be do some research on www.caraudio.com, http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/, and other places. I am sure that someone out there has done it and has pictures. If you need plans drawn up, give Moe Lester a pm on www.caraudio.com, he does excellent work.

If you install any aftermarket speakers, components, subs, etc. You HAVE to amp subs, and It would be best to amp components, your cd player only puts out prob around 25wrms, although it says 52, that is maximum output.

My policy on headunits is if you like the interface, go with it.

I may consider getting another system for my S10. My speakers are wearing out; there's static sometimes, and when playing certain CD's that are recorded in such a way, they don't sound right.

I know JL Audio makes a stealthbox that fits in the back of extended cab S10s and you can still use the jump seats. It houses 2 10s.What I don't remember is if they fit that year of an S10.
