Angry Running hot

I have a 1995 4Runner that keeps running hot. I've replaced the Radiator and Thermostat but it keeps running hot. There is no leaking when it has been sitting still. I can fill the radiator up prior to driving and still it will run hot. What could be the problem? Water pump? I' lost.

Re: Running hot

Need more information.
What engine? 4cvl V6
Like are you "using" coolant (consumming)?
Does the engine run smooth?
Any other symtoms?

Re: Running hot

Welcome to the AF!

Yes, it could be your water pump is corroded and not pumping well.

Could also be your radiator. See if some spots are alot cooler than others, indicating a stopped up portion of the core.

Could be the fan clutch has lost it's oil and your fan is not turning fast enough if the engine stays at normal temp when you are moving on the road, but not when you're stopped or moving really slow.

Re: Re: Running hot

I'm using 50/50 coolant. V6 engine. It runs good until it heats up.

Re: Re: Running hot

From what you've told me, I think it is the water pump. Because once this thing gets hot, it dosen't matter if it's standing still or moving the temp guage stays on H

Re: Running hot

Could also be a head gasket, but the water pump is definitely the first thing to try. Don't forget to check the radiator for blockage. I guess it's not likely to be the radiator, but it's a test you can do without any work or time other than heating the engine up.

It could also be the suction radiator hose (bottom) is collapsing internally and not letting coolant be sucked by the water pump.

The government in Canada & USA will force car manufacturers to recall a vehicle based on safety or emissions but the headgasket was a voluntary recall made by Toyota as many notices were mailed to customers and many customers were notified by phone. As well many owners would contact any Toyota dealership or even the head office and give them the VIN afterwards the owner would take their truck to any Toyota dealership and have the work done at no cost to them and given a free rental car.

Some people who already had the work done elsewhere would partially or completely get re-embursed by Toyota,I have read this many times on the 61 or so 4-Runner/pickup dedicated discussion sites.
