Accord doesn't have power leftcrpederson 11-04-2005, 01:07 AM Hi, Yesterday i was driving into my steep driveway and my 1993 Accord EX couldn't make it up the driveway. This seemed out of nowhere. I parked it and tried the next day only to find I couldn't pull it out of park (Its an automatic). So I keyed the shift lock and that seemed to work to get it out of park. I drove it around the block up some hills and it is severely lacking in acceleration. We checked the transmission fluid and it was fine.Something is definitely wrong here. Also, i noticed a peculiar smell coming from somewhere (kind of like a burning). Thanks in advance. mpumas 11-04-2005, 01:38 AM Lets me try to understand. Does it feel like the transmission is slipping. Engine speed increases but the car doesn't want to move? crpederson 11-04-2005, 02:58 AM Lets me try to understand. Does it feel like the transmission is slipping. Engine speed increases but the car doesn't want to move? Pretty much. When i put the pedal down to accel the car doesn't do much. mpumas 11-04-2005, 01:54 PM If you move the shift lever slightly either way . does it make a difference. If it does, the cable adjustment may be necessary. Otherwise, you may need a new transmission. mpumas 11-04-2005, 01:54 PM If you move the shift lever slightly either way . does it make a difference. Not really, they have a torque converter and internal bands. But not clutches per se. AccordCodger 11-05-2005, 09:23 AM ok and your point is? it still has a clutch which in your case sounds like its worn out I STILL say you have a lot to learn, young man. bjd088 11-05-2005, 11:34 AM In answer to the question, transmissions are expensive, I hope for your sake it is just an adjustment. AccordCodger 11-05-2005, 01:09 PM Expensive as in more than the book value of the car (AFTER it's fixed). There's always the solution of a used transmission if you want to go that route. When i put the pedal down to accel the car doesn't do much. You didn't answer the question as to whether the RPMs go up without the car accelerating. That's a key piece of information, and readily available by looking at the rev counter while you're driving. Having said that, the burning smell, while possibly unrelated, is not a good sign. But there ARE other possibilities, depending on your answer. How long have you had the car? How many mies on it? Do you know its history? How has it been driven?
