I have a 2000 ES V6 (2.5L) which has a locked in CEL. I had OBD II codes pulled, and was told it was code P0400 EGR Flow Malfunction. I expected more specific code numbers, but that's all I got. Does this indicate the EGR valve probably needs replaced? The parts store guy said try cleaning it out with carb cleaner. At $341 for a new valve I lean toward trying the cleaning. Any hints or pointers???

Thanks,

Mitch

clean the vacuum ports out inside the intake manifold. just take off the throttle body and youll see two holes just behind it that will be plugged with carbon. youll need to buy a new throttle body gasket and clean the mating surfaces really well. use carburetor cleaner to break up the carbon chunks and use compressed air to blow through the holes. just dont dump too much cleaner in the intake as you can hydro-lock the engine and bend a connecting rod.
