stearing collum was pealedintegrawhat 11-02-2005, 12:21 AM ok so my 93 cherokee was stolen last night. the assholes drove it three blocks away and stole all my power tools and stereo equiptment and they trashed the stearing collum. i was wandering if any body knows any place online where i can look to find repair diagrams,(i'll buy a haynes manual or similar if i have to but i might need something more in depth) and and what my best bet for fixing it would be. someone told me to get a new collum from a junk yard but i dont know how hard will it be to swap or is it possible to just wire in a new ignition button and some switches for the turn signals Dominic240 11-02-2005, 09:21 PM I would change out the whole column. Its pretty simple . There should be some electrical connectors on the column just disconnect them. And move everything out of the way for the colomn to come out. Unbolt the column from underneath the dash last, so it will not fall Then from the fire wall there should be three or four bolts. You will probaby have to pull the carpet and pad from the firewall to get to this. Then move to the shaft from underneath the hood. Either a cotter pin or a bolt will connect the two rods together. Now remove the bolts from the dash,. it should slide right out. On your new column while it is out go ahead and change out the ignition switch with the new one so you will have the keys. I hope this will help out . You may be already mechanically inclined. I had nothing else to do, so good luck. integrawhat 11-03-2005, 02:08 PM can i just change the part of the collum with the ignition and turn signal switch or do i have to change the whole collum Dominic240 11-03-2005, 05:02 PM you should be able to just fix what is broken. Just have to look at cost and time. Is it going to cost more for all the parts or the whole column from a salvage. Which will be easier to do?
