i have a 1989 jeep cherokee with a 4.0 and an auto. it wont start. you turn the key to the start pos and it fires up and then you let the key go to the run pos and it dies. i just replaced the TPS. does anyone have a clue as to what this could be? any help is very welcome.

i put in all new relays, and still no luck. it only fires when i pump the gas while im holding the key in the start pos. so im going to try to change out the ignition switch. could the fuel pump be bad? all the help you guys have given so far is very welcome so please keep it coming if you can.

ill try that. by resistor do you mean the relay? cause if so they are all new.

there is a sqare white ceramic resistor on the drivers side fender. It has two wires on it and its there to cut noise down for the fuel pump but is not really needed. Most people who have problems with it unplug the two wires and hook them up together.
