97 Voyager tranny vibrations through pedal?

97 3.3 116K has the hard shift problem from first to second and sometimes second to third. Had the fan relay issue and way overheated, so much so that DH had to put ATF into tranny.. now that I've done more research about the tranny issues, I come to discover that the tranny needs ATF3, he is unsure what brand he put into it.

The tranny itself started this issue a month ago, on the freeway in D, going up a hill it gave a metal clunky feeling through the gas pedal. Shifted into 3, no vibration. This is my vehicle (mom) and I don't usually drive on the freeway. Accelerating from a stop in D, felt the clunky feeling again. Shifted into 3, no problem. Except today, accellerating in a turn in 3 now have clunky feeling.

DH is taking to jiffy lube for tranny service, filter replacement and fluids..

Any help? Is this a big tranny rebuild or replacement?

There is a good possibility that the tranny has been damaged by putting in the wrong type of fluid. Although most Chrysler transmissions in the mini vans only last 100k miles or less. Mine went at around 130K miles although it went without warning. Once you have the fluid and filter changed see if the issue continues. If not then drive it normally. If the problems don't go away you may need a rebuild. Mine was done by AAMCO and cost $1700 and had a 1 year warranty. Had another 34K miles on it when I traded it off but continued to work very well.
