Red face neon engine swap

yeah I have a 95 neon sohc..the engine is bad and need to replace it. and I dont really want to go with the same engine..Mine as well swap it with a different engine..I heard alot that people could swap it with a 420a engine from a eclipse/talon/sebring/avenger engine. Which I think it might be possible. the question is..? well it fit?? how bout the turbocharge engine 4g63.??..also people had swap out with dodge stratus engine also...So which one would Fit?? and which one would be better ??..any answer will be help ful

The 420a will not swap in, even if it could you said you wanted a different engine. The 420A is the Mitsubishi designation for the Chrysler 2.0l DOHC engine as sold to Mitsubishi. This engine uses a block identical to the ECC Chrysler 2.0 DOHC, with a reversed (intake/exhaust) head.

The 4g63 will not swap unless you are willing to spend a ton of money and then you will realize it isn't worth it

The 2.4 PT, stratus or even SRT-4 engine will swap into a first gen neon. All of these swaps take some time but all canbe achieved and have been very successful.

Re: neon engine swap

I have a hard time beliveing that considering that when I order parts for my DOHC they list it as the 420A.. The SOHC block is the same so I dont see how they would be so diffrent that the could not be swapped in. also if the engine can't be swapped in but it resided in a eclipse how come the 4g63 would work?

turbosivtec you can put any engine you damn well please in your car it just depends upon you mechanical skills and how fat your wallet is.

I would go with the 2.4 turbo from the PT throw some internals in and upgrade the turbo set up.

I just stick with the all motor SOHC. It gets the job done. that and I don't want to dump alot of money into the neon I have over 200,000 miles on . I'm trying to get my shop going than I can burn some cash! vbmenu_register("postmenu_3518282", true);

you could put any engine in a neon but putting in a 420a from a eclipse to me would be a waste of time. Just b/c the internals are the same dosent mean its going to swap right in. Just swap in a 2.4 Its not that hard, I didnt have much experience with working on cars and I did it. You can diffently tell a difference in the torque!

The DOHC engine in the neon IS NOT THE 420a PERIOD! Call up your Chrysler dealer and ask them if they have parts for the 420a engine in the neon. The 420a is used in the 4 cylinder engines in the avenger and sebring, but never in the neon.

The 4g63 engine will not swap either. Of course you can make anything work with enough time and money, but they are not realistic swaps.

The reason when you buy parts that 420a engine for your neon, it's because the place you are buying them from have no idea what they are talking about. Some of the parts are similiar and they share the same bolck, but the head is reversed on the eclipse engine.

Re: neon engine swap

I never Said Nopi had a clue but they do list it as Neon/Eclipse so I don't know what they are puffin . The parts they sent me worked. but like I said I keep my SOHC with the original engine and some mods I haven't worked it too much cause I don't feel its worth putting money into right now.
My DOHC was loaned to my cousin and she blew the engine ( Rod right through the block.)
