98 malibu dies and not startinggtstang03 10-25-2005, 11:38 AM Hello, Are 98 Malibu (V6) stopped running on the way home from work yesterday. It was running fine and just stopped (like someone had turned the key off). It would re-start and run fine until she stepped on the brakes, then it would die again with all the lights and power everything turning off. Noticed the ABS light and brake light came on a couple weeks ago, we had to replace the battery, so we did so and it went away. Then it came on right before these issues. I'm thinking this might be an electrical problem. We went out this morning turn the key to on, everything lite up on the dash tried to start, nothing. Everything went off. Now there is no power to anything, no dash lights or ding. Any ideas or help would be great. Thanks maxwedge 10-25-2005, 07:07 PM Check the battery connections and grounds, clean and retiten. gtstang03 10-25-2005, 10:32 PM Check the battery connections and grounds, clean and retiten. I am also having the ABS light warnings. Could the system be shutting down because of the faulty sensor, that would be some pretty bad computer control system mistake? I was going to replace the hub assembly, because of grinding noise and this issue. Any thoughts? Thanks Mr. Leger 11-07-2005, 04:46 AM Well, looks like i'm in the right place. My 99 malibu has been shutting down at random times for the last 6 weeks. I am starting to get very angry with my chevy. All my gauges just drop, and she dies, and dies, and dies, over and over again. Sometimes starting up easily, and sometimes, leaving me on the side of the road for some time. Also my lights are fluttering, along with the engine. I changed the EGR valve yesterday, that helped none.I dont know what to do, or even where to start? Will someone please point me in the right direction? ASAP Thank you. RJ MALIBU 11-07-2005, 08:23 AM its prolly an alternator .that would be the 1st thing id check.ABS AND BRAKE lights is a sign of bad alternator dont know why though, had the same problem on my cavalier maxwedge 11-07-2005, 10:28 AM As mentioned, get after to battery cables first, tight an clean at both ends, important. ladyk325 11-21-2005, 04:18 PM how many miles do u all have on ur cars? bauermill 12-10-2005, 10:47 PM I've had multiple problems with my 2000 Malibu LS. This one is the most annoying. Mine has 95,000 miles and it randomly dies and sometimes starts back up and sometimes I have to wait awhile, when it is dead, my alternator is charging. I took it to a mechanic who is typically good with issues like this and he couldn't figure it out. If anyone figures out what is wrong, please post. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
