Odd Rattling From 1997 SentraMiddleFinger 10-23-2005, 06:04 PM So, my car ('97 Sentra) has bottomed out rather had a couple times this week and I've recently noticed an odd rattling coming from the lower right of my car. The noise is audible when I put the car in drive, park, reverse and also when I'm driving around. It sounds like some kind of metal is rattling/dragging and vibrating against the underbelly of the car, but when I look under the vehicle, nothing seems to be dragging. The muffler is fine, the exhaust/tailpipe are firm and the car performs fine, except for the vibrating/rattling noises. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Chiquae07 10-23-2005, 06:24 PM when you say lower right, do you mean underneath you, of behind you? there might be somethin stuck in the wheels. otherwise it sounds like it might be the transmission MiddleFinger 10-23-2005, 06:40 PM The noise is under the car, under the right rear passenger seat. Also, passengers in the rear have commented that the floor vibrates more than normal under their feet. Chiquae07 10-24-2005, 02:59 PM hum....im not quite sure to that. i've never heard of that before PWRDbyUNCLEbens 10-24-2005, 10:51 PM I know on my car the resonator screen had come loose, and began to rattle. I'm getting a pipe put in the resonators place towmorrow. If you put your car in the air, and tap your exhaust you can tell whether something is rattling. Good Luck I know how annoying it is. ProZach626 10-25-2005, 04:24 PM i know how it is... i have a grinding sound almost everytime i turn right while braking. the mechanics can't figure it out. ANNOYING! PWRDbyUNCLEbens 10-25-2005, 10:28 PM Update: It din't work to replace the resonator. It must be another exhaust shield. Anyways I out a cat back on my car, and its not as annoying :icon16: EDMUND65 10-26-2005, 01:27 AM tranny is on the left buddy..... and it woudlnt be the tranny.... deff is your timing chain.... i had the same problem... and its a fun job... Boogieman142 10-26-2005, 01:29 AM Well, first of all,the transmission is on the left side, not the right, therefore it isn't the transmission. The rattling is probably coming from the engine, on the front of it. I had the same problem for 6 months before I finally changed the timing chain and tensioners, and everything else that I found that could be changed in there while I had it apart. It fixed the problem and now I have more power like Tim Taylor. Boogieman142 10-26-2005, 01:33 AM by the way, have fun with the chain, it took me 4.5 hours to do it, and about $200. have lots of fun. Boogieman142 10-26-2005, 01:35 AM i know how it is... i have a grinding sound almost everytime i turn right while braking. the mechanics can't figure it out. ANNOYING! Yup, I had that problem too, it was a wheel bearing. Nissan is known for it. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
