There was a journalist who has a bi-monthly column in germany's biggest car magazine, Auto Motor und Sport about technical innovations that are coming up. This time he mentioned that he had definite confirmation about BMW using their Formula 1 technolgy in road cars. Because of the succes of their superb V10 engine, they will now feature a roadlegal V10 in the top models of the new 5-series and 6-series (which are both heavily interlinked). Both models will undoubtedly be released in 2003 and although no pictures of neither the Five or the new supersporty M6 have been released, it is sure their fastest models, the M5 and M6, will be using this new 5,0 V10 engine, pumping out no less than 550 bhp. Not a joke! I was surprised to hear that they will be so powerful but apparantly BMW will be pitching the M6 against Mercedes SLR and Porsche Carrera, at least as far as power goes. This is in line with much talk of there being no direct competitor by BMW against the SLR, Carrera GT and Ferrari F60.
I can't wait for the 6-series.

I have heard the same thing about the next M5 and M6. I can't wait to see what those cars are going to be like. I have seen pictures of the new 5-series in a British magazine which interviewed Chris Bangle. I didn't like the way the car looked. It looked like a Fiat from the back and a Ford Contour from the front. Let's hope that those were not actual pictures of the car.

Well, I read the article and Iīm also looking forward for the new 5 and 6 series, but what this author wrote was that the M6 would get a V10 but not the M5, it should get a V8.
The V10 getīs itīs power by rpm, it seems to have up to 9000rpm.

Well that provoked a Pavlonian saliva reaction. Can you just imagine how the automotive press would eat up an M5 with a 550bhp V10? And the new 6-series!
As for the comments made about the new 5's appearance: I wouldn't take too much stock in those pics. Remember that they are heavily computer modified, and are essentially patchwork pieces based on current BMWs. I have a feeling the new 6 will be unbelievably sleek, where the 5 will continue the current trend of attractive sensibility.
Yummy yummy V-10. I want a V-10 powered MCoupe.

I am currently IN LOVE with the new M5, I don't see how they could improve on its styling, i love it!!!!! but if they make it faster and better looking, there won't be any competition.
