OT: what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had?nineball481 10-17-2005, 08:25 PM Curiosity has stricken me today. We've all had'em. To everyone else, they were terds on wheels. But to us, well to us, they were freedom, symbols of rebelion, why we had HS jobs, a way to get girls, a way to be cool. What could be so wonderful to bring all of these things? Our first car.... So I want to know.... ...what was your first car, what car do you wish you still had? maybe share an experience you had. my first car was an '88 Ford Tempo *YUK. I bought it for $200. It had 280,000miles. yep, 280. That frakkin car nickel and dimed me to death. I had to work just to keep it running! The kicker was I couldn't be on anyone else's insurance policy, so PLPD on that POS was $2100/ 6months (I was 16) needless to say, I didn't have insurance until I was 20 :D The car I wish I still had: the year: 1976 the car: Lincoln Mark IV Bill Blass SE I loved this car. It was longer than most full size pick ups at 21' bumper to bumper. The hood alone was 6' long. We would cruise all night long up and down the strip, racing, tryin to pick up girls. On night in particular, close to Holloween. I drove in the center lane of I465 ( a 55mile circle around Indianapolis),w a bunch of friends in the car, going 35-40mph while a car load of girls where in the fast lane. We were yeallin back in forth, tryin to get them to flash (they never did). We continued around 465 for 30miles that way. When I finally looked in my rearview I saw nothing but headlights for as far as I could see. So we both got off the interstate and went to haunted houses together. Ah, good times. BlenderWizard 10-17-2005, 09:38 PM I had 2 cars VERY briefly after I got my license. The first was an 85 T Bird v6, which died shortly after I got it, and then an 85 Ford Ranger v6, which some ass hat rear ended and totalled shortly after I got it. You can see more about that here: http://photobucket.com/albums/a5/BlenderWizard/Ranger%20Wreck/?action=view&slideshow=true But, what I really consider my FIRST car was an '84 Chevy celebrity 2.8 v6. GREAT car. had plenty of room to roll the posse around in, and sometimes pick up a few chicks. The car I wish I still had: My dad's 84 Olds Toronado he had this car the same time i had the celebrity, but, man, that thing was huge! AWESOME car FWD v8. Got a couple of chicks in this one, too. He would loan it to me to drive whenever I needed a car if min was OOC (out of commission) for whatever reason. My friends called it the pimpmobile HanibalTheCannibal 10-17-2005, 11:40 PM http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/386/10011990rz.th.jpg (http://img375.imageshack.us/my.php?image=10011990rz.jpg) I "STILL" have my favorite ride!! I bought it when me was 20 (12 years ago *cough cough*) I have had many memories with this truck. Still runs like a champ with 45K on a rebuilt 407CID, 6K on rebuilt C6tranny, COLD A/C, Floor shifter, headers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust, and NO RADIO!!! LOL chuck16 10-17-2005, 11:54 PM First car was a POS an 83' Supra. It was a lot of fun after we rebuilt the engine (blown Headgasket) and had to put a new set of brakes all the way around, pads, rotors and calipers as 3 out of 4 were seized. It got destroyed by some idiot who pulled an illegal U--turn on an off Ramp right in front of me. Driverside front fender and dents all along the driverside, couldn't get out of the driverside of the car. However, the one I miss the most was my Audi GT 4000 Coupe. I know I know an import car. It was fun, It didn't really have any majors die on me and it was great hauling the crew around in it. One Night I believe we got 8 people in it;(it only sat 5 comfortably) and thanks god we only had to go a few blocks. It was lowered had a thumpy stereo in it, moonroof the whole nine yards. Alas, times change, people grow up and now I have a big ass truck that I haul me, the wife, and the rugrat around in.... If you guys want pics of the ol'Audi lemme know. I'm sure I have some somewhere... misfitt006 10-18-2005, 12:04 AM My first car was a '73 monte carlo. Paid $400 cash for it. I absolutely LOVED that car!!!! It was a "piece of shit" according to my friends, but naturally they had no problems riding around in it all night every night since I was the only one with a car. It was so huge I think the record we set one night was 14 people inside the car with the doors closed. Can't believe I didn't kill us that night.....or a couple of other nights as well. I don't know what the top end on her was, but the speedo read 120 and I had it burried on more than one occasion. Once my buddy timed it. I had her wide open and the needle was pointing straight down (we could actually see the gas gauge moving) and when I hit the brakes he started timing it and it took a full 18 sec before the needle started to back down. Good times Great oldies!!! I still miss that car *sniff* *sniff* 99redsilverado 10-18-2005, 12:29 AM my first car was a 1985 jeep grand wagoneer.....i still have it, although its not running right now (broke it fourwheeling) car i wish i still had: 69 pontiac lemans with 350 and automatic with a console shifter.....42k original miles got it for 400 bucks....sold it for 2200 after driving it for three weeks, why i dont know Rollingbones 10-18-2005, 01:20 AM My frist car was a 1964 Studabaker Commander with a Chevy 289 V-8 (1965 was their last year). My parents bought it new in '64 and I got it in '71. It died and then I got a 1959 Ford Country Sedan station wagon. It was black and white with red interior and was powered with a 351 V-8. I was the second owner. My frinds at school called it "The Tank" and man did I have fun with that car. It's where I got my first.... well you know what!!! Gas was $.25 a gallon.....Aaaaahhh, those were the days. That's the car I'd like to have now to restore. jethro_3 10-18-2005, 01:54 AM First: '62 Nova 2dr hdtp. Paid $200 in sheriff sale, put $1K to build in high school auto shop w/6 cyl and 3 on tree. Primer black, red crushed velvet interior with wavy "lipstick" down center. First day out of shop took to "Senior Keg" and was christened with beer "Christine" after the movie. Changed to 300 hp 283, 4 spd M21, posi 4.10, Monza buckets with white outside paint. Sold 7 yrs later for $1800 and $3 invested..... still miss her.... 140 mph scraped all speed humps, could drag hand on ground without leaning out door.... :thefinger single and broke in high school but cool as hell in a POS that was MINE :evillol: Miss the most: '91 chevy Reg Cab Sportside 6cyl 4 spd manual White with Blue Int Silverado, chrome SS rims, Black w/Red outline SS badges in rims and grille. 25 MPG Hwy, 20MPG city, circular spedometer add 100 to to flipside went 145 from Texas to Nebraska until stopped by DEA.... I was inocent, just geting some personal items in South Dakota, try getting him to believe you left south/central Tx 8 hours earlier. That was the Single Mans Truck with a bench seat, named "Christine II." Oh the days......... :bananasmi Other honorable mention: '97 GMC Sanoma, 6cyl 200 hp 5 spd, ZQ8 "SS" supsension, Ext Cab Sportside, Metallic Green. Could corner with the Porsches... Low and go until a M!%! VAN totaled it from behind.... RIP, RIP.... :bricks1: BlenderWizard 10-18-2005, 07:49 AM Yeah, if you went and looked at the pics of my ranger, that was done by soe asshat in a Honda who ran up underneath me jeverett 10-18-2005, 08:36 AM I've had 5 vehicles since I was 16...not even 10 years ago. Anyhow. 1st was a 1971 Ford F-100 Sport Custom. 1996 Mustang 5.0, C4, Hole in the floor, and glasspacks!! Oh yeah, Top speed, 54 mph! Did all the work myself, inlcuding the hole! 2nd 1987 Ford F-150 4x4 Stepside W/T. It had no air, power anything, no carpet..but it was a 4x4!! had a 5.0 and AOD. Bought for $3500 with 130K on it. Sold it with 200K on it for the same price. 3rd (and favorite) 1989 Ford F-150 XLT 4x4. 5.8, C6, power everything and my first A/C!! Had 89K on it when bought, sold with 188K. I traded the black 87 in on this one. IT got about 9 mpg most of the time. 4th My silverado 5th - The 77 F-150 in my pics I posted last week. 400ci, C6, 35x16x15 boggers, no air, no power anything, but it has carpet and a radio! $2000 is all it cost. yakk 10-18-2005, 09:11 AM My first was a '68 Tempest convertable, I got it in 1974. It looked like this http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/yakkk/68Tempestragtop.jpg only sky blue. It was rather peppy with its DOHC straight-6. My only mod was the requisite 8-track quadraphonic stereo in it. I remember loading it with my HS buddies and driving to a daytime party at a beach house, pulling up to a light at 11 am in broad daylight, and all my buddies jumped out and took a leak on the sidewalk facing the trees, with a line of traffic stopped behind us.:grinno: I live it that town now, and every time I stop at that light, I think of that day and what fools we were. The one I wish I still had was a '64 Plymouth Valiant http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/yakkk/64front.gif complete with push-button transmission http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/yakkk/64inside.gif. It was a hand-me-down in college, and it had such a reputation for shenanagins that I got pulled over in it because the campus security thought I was the previous owner who was banned from driving on campus (for who knows what). The best thing about it (besides the slant six that refused to die) was the ventilation system - it had the old black metal door that would swing open, and you could stuff 8 or 9 beer cans up there and close it. It was the perfect cooler for those winter road trips in Vermont. And it would always start at 20 below zero, while the kids with the brand-new Trans-Am's would be riding the bus. I had a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to allow it to warm up enough to run the heater. Nigel215 10-18-2005, 09:50 AM My first car was such a pice of shit my uncle just gave it to me. It was an '88 Ford Tarus. We called it "the tortis". I raced my friend with a Geo Tracker and actually won, that was fun. I was like a sofa on the inside though. I dident do a damn thing with that car the year and a half I had it except put gas in it. Never washed it, it had mas quantities of bird shit on it. Kinda gross. Oh yea, and water or coolant in it every morning because the radiator leeked like a drunk girl. But the money I dident spend oh that car helped me buy my truck so I was happy to have it. I had alot of fun times in that car wit my friends and the ladies. (HS girls dont care what kinda car it is they just wanna ride). The Car I wish I had is the '48 Chevy sedan delivery truck sitting in my garage. My dad put it in their back in '74 to swap the engin and just never put it back togeather. I want that thing soo bad. Just picture "Grave Digger" on 16" craigers. That thing needs alot of TLC. TexasF355F1 10-18-2005, 12:21 PM My first ride was a 1985 Chevy S-10, colors brown/tan/brown...her name was Dookie Brown. It was my Gaga's truck so looking back it was important to me, I just didn't realize it because I was a punk teenager who just wanted something to roll in. The carbarator sucked ass in the worst way possible. Backed into two polls b/c the truck died and I had no power to push the brake pedal down far enough, and almost got broad-sided a few times after she died going through intersections. What she could do was produce enormous amounts of bass with the 1-12" sub I had in the back. It was the cheapy Jensen brand but it bumped so hard everyone thought I was rockin' two 12's. That 2.8L V6 could do a mean burn-out. Shortly before I got rid of it, I was at a stop light in the neighborhood with about 2 or 3 cars in front of me and when I started a car came up from behind me which quickly disappeared in the cloud of smoke. When the light turned green and I let off the brake I didn't move for a few moments and then took off. The one-wheel peel mark laid on the street stayed there for nearly a year. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/56975dookiebrown-med.jpg Unfortunately for the guy that bought it, it was stolen probably a month later and actually totaled by the tow truck. How I don't know, but I felt really bad for the guy who bought it though. At the end of my junior year of high school I was given my current truck as an early graduation present. My dad just told me recently the reason he bought me the truck is because he wanted me to be able to drive something new and cool my last year of high school. He said it made up for his dad not allowing him to buy the car he wanted in high school. BlenderWizard 10-18-2005, 12:45 PM my celebity also had the carbureted 2.8 v6 yakk 10-18-2005, 12:55 PM my celebity also had the carbureted 2.8 v6 I think my first 10 vehicles all had carburators. twomorestrokes 10-18-2005, 12:57 PM First ride was a '65 Olds F85 in 1975. Second and one of my favorites was a '70 Cuda in 1977. The one I still think about trying to get back was a '62 Ford F100 Unibody (full frame but intregal cab/box) That was cool! The car I wish I still had, I DO still have. I bought a '69 Olds 442 W32 convertible in 1980 and still have it. W32 was a one year option. Red with black top, interior, and hood stripes. I bought it 25 years ago because I had a set of rare '69 H/O wheels that I wanted to use on something. Snowbrdr1122 10-18-2005, 05:29 PM My first car was a hand me down from my dad, a 98 jeep grand cherokee limited with the 5.9L V-8. Had plenty of good times with that thing in high school... It was nearly unstopable in the mud:) airtight_python 10-18-2005, 08:28 PM Mine was a hand-me-down 1987 GMC S15 with 2.8L throttle body injection. It was a regular cab and it was pretty mean. I miss it, only problem it ever had was it burned up the starter a couple times... sold it at 150k. Good memories in that truck. :( sc_customs 10-19-2005, 02:14 PM My first car was a Pontiac Sunbird :icon16: It was my belated uncle's vehicle. At least it had a radio!! Although it was installed in the AC vents place (dont ask why, i didn't do it). It was a good lil car tho. As for the car I wish I still had...I had a 1996 Silverado 4x4 350. That thing was sweet. I'd take it off-road all the time, goin up hills in reverse and such. The demise of this truck was tragic though. Nov. 2001 it was totalled :crying: and I mean totalled. Got side swiped by a car, sent into oncoming traffic, and into a brick wall. Check out the pics: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/328508/1 Pretty nasty huh? BlenderWizard 10-19-2005, 02:22 PM YEARRGHHH!!! That looks worse than my ranger sc_customs 10-19-2005, 02:25 PM YEARRGHHH!!! That looks worse than my ranger Yeah, definitely not my finest hour. Insurance paid it off though, and then some. which almost completely paid off what I have now. 97sle 10-19-2005, 03:29 PM My first car was a 92 s10, single cab, standard, with the 2.8L, it had 150,000 miles when i got it, i gave it a new paint job, ar rims, and straight pipes. It took all that i could give it and ran perfect when i got rid of it. I wish i still had just to mess around in it vnotaro 10-19-2005, 06:32 PM My 1st was 66 Mustang with a 200 straight 6. Paid $100 for it and got about 10,000 miles out of it. The only thing was that it liked to blow trannys. My old man had a hook with a few junkyards because of all of his work trucks and was able to get me them for free. He dropped the first one in the driveway and told me to figure out how to put it in myself. After the second one went, I parked at the yard where he kept his trucks and one of the men there dropped a tree on it. Oh well. It was fun while it lasted! Moose is loose 10-19-2005, 09:57 PM My 1st was a 1970 Custom 10. That truck must have hated me! After jumping it, racing it, and just plain killing it, I sold it for $3850.00 (with a new paint job and trans). I missed it so bad my wife bought me a 1969 Custom Camper 20 just to shut me up. It has the stock 396, AC, Auto, Factory Tach, Tilt, PS, PB, and every other factory option available 36 years ago. It even has the factory vacuum gage! The best part is it only has 54,000 original miles. God I love that truck.... jem270 10-20-2005, 08:41 AM My first one was a 1966 sky blue Mercury Monterey hardtop. I was 16. It had the 390 with the c6 transmission. I put in an fm converter (it only had an am radio) and speakers in the rear deck (it only came with the one speaker in the front). A friend of mine told me that he had an uncle that totaled a 1968 Mercury Cyclone with the 428 cobra jet engine. It was located in Tennessee. I drove with him to Nashville to pick up the engine. We drove from Pensacola to Nashville in 5.5 hours (yes we were hauling butt). I picked up the engine from the wrecking yard and they put it into the trunk (yes trunk) of my Monterey. I then drove back to Pensacola in 5 hours. I remember getting aggravated when a car passed me on the interstate on our way back. The speed limit was 70 and I was going 80. I sped up and had to go 115 to pass him. I stayed in front of him for a long time then my temperature gauge showed my engine (the 390) was overheating and I had to slow to 110 to keep the temperature down! Hey I was 16 and fearless (and did not know any better). That 390 was a good engine. When we got back to Pensacola I had a mechanic install the 428 cobra jet and man that car would fly. The only cars I could not beat were the Plymouth 440’s, the Mustangs and the Corvettes. Those were the days! Car I wish I still had? Duh! bobboinge 10-20-2005, 11:59 AM 1st car '39 Mercury coupe, deep, deep purple. Car I wish I still had, hmmmmm!!!! '56 chevy nomad, black and white, 265, 3 speed overdrive or '66 vette, deep blue, white top, big ass sidepipes, 427 450 hp. Had a bunch of '55-'56-'57 chevys and a few 60's but these three were my favorites. Oh yeah, my 1 st pick-up was a '29 chevy I bought in '66 for $50.00. JParrott 10-20-2005, 06:03 PM 1973 chevelle ss that I paid 1000 bucks for. Had a worn out 350/TH350 with 2.73's. Ran the 350 for about 6 months and paid 400 bucks for a complete 454 that ran out of an old pickup at a junkyard. The guy even threw in the TH400 behind it in the deal. Had it bored and hot tanked and put her back together with a few upgrades and drove it like hell until I broke the front ladder arm connector on the drivers side. The rear end tore loose and the driveshaft beat a hole in the floorboard. It sat on blocks for years. I gave it away as a wedding gift to a buddy who'd tried buying it from me for years. I miss her. Sonny01 10-20-2005, 06:35 PM Between my wife and I we have had about 50 cars or so...my first was a 1959 Cadillac Sedan deVille with the big bullet tail lights. I had to have a job to support that car. We now have a 2000 K1500, a 2001 VW Passat and a 2000 Sundowner horse trailer. We used to have big expensive cars but we both have horses now so there goes all of the money...I wouldn't have it any other way. http://www.hunt101.com/img/335558.JPG vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
