93 camry wont start--help--shift lever problem

I have been having issues trying to start my 93 camry. I know a car needs to be in park to start and the problem I had before is that on the dash the park light has to be on so the car can start(the solenoid knows it is in park and can start the car that way. The problem with my car was that the park light did not want to light up so I would move and wiggle the shift lever so the light would come on and then I could start the car. Now the light for P R D does not light, only the N 2 L light up causing my non start. I disassembled the shift lever to see if there was any binding but everything moves freely, I will like to know what I would have to replace. Is there a shift lock computer somewhere and is there a way to bypass that because I know the reason for this whole thing is safety so the car only starts in park but is there a switch that can be disconnected to overide this and allow my car to start in N or P.

any help would be appreciated.

Your car should also start in neutral. Give that a try.

May be out of adjustment..stretched cable etc..

the car does not allow me to start in neutral even though I can get the N light on the gauge to light up. I know in my honda accord it can start in neutral. WOuld that suggest a problem, if so with which part of the vehicle. I was thinking of disconnecting the park neutral switch in front of the transmission to see if it will allow me to start the car.

I fixed the problem, thanks cxaxon for the link. It showed me the manual shift lever and I seen it clearly and loosen the bolt and adjusted the lever and then tightened the bolt and now it starts with no problem. I guess it was out of synch and the bolt was to tight on the lever. Scratch that idea I had about disconnecting the park neutral switch because as soon as I did that, the shift selector did not light up any gears so you will never get your car to work that way. thanks guys for your input
