What size flare wrench to remove fuel filter?

Does any body know what size flare wrench i should but to loosening the nut that connects the fuel filter?
And should i pull the wrench down or up to loosen that bolt?
I tried using a adjustable wrench but messed up the nut!

Sorry i did a search and found the answer in 10 seconds!!!

Mikado14 say "Use a 5/8" and 11/16" tubing wrench. Kroil is a good penetrent. Make sure you spray the tube into the nut also, that is more than likely where the problem lies."

but if you have any tips on removing the filter pls let me know

Getting a good enough grip on the filter with a pair of slip-jaw pliers works for me. Twist as you tug it and she'll turn loose eventually.

I believe that it takes a 5/8 and a 13/16. I just use normal wrenches. I use the wrenches to break it loose then hold one wrench on the line and spin the filter off with my finger tips. I then pull it down and disconnect the quick connect. Install in reverse, connect the new filter, put it place and spin it up tight and then use the wrenches to add about another 1/4 turn.

Using normal wrenches on a fuel line nut is a dangerous thing. Typically they are corroded, also the metal tends be be soft... When using regular wenches (not line wrench) you run the risk of stripping them, then you've pretty much screwed the pooch so to speak... Even a couple of cheap line wrenches from advance or autozone do a decent job.

I've never had a problem with mine, it may be because I change it pretty often. I can take it off and install it with my hands, I just use the wrenchs to break it loose and snug it up.

I agree that the line wrenches would be safer, but I've never needed them.

I generally grab a set if vice grips and channel locks when I go under there.

Havent had to use them yet on this vehicle the flare nut wrenches have worked fine. But on my old full size the tank side froze up a couple times.

I say whatever you use BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO LET THE WRENCH SLIP, NOT EVEN A LITTLE.

Otherwise you will be cutting the line off and installing new parts.

I guess I should clarify:

The channel lock pliers I mentioned are used to twist the old filter out of place ONCE the fuel lines are removed with flare nut wrenches. Since the old fuel filter is going to be replaced anyway, i don't care if I gouge it up getting it out with the channel locks. But most certainly, use the flare wrenches on the line(s) with an adjustable wrench to hold the backing nut on the body of the filter itself. Anything else is just silly...and dangerous.
