type of coolantkonak9c1 10-08-2005, 12:52 PM I have '98 4runner v6. I wanted to fillup the coolant reservoir b/c it was empty. The coolant is pink. I was wondering if i could mix regular green prestone coolant with the pink coolant? What should i use? fourwd1 10-10-2005, 04:12 PM What does your owners manul say? Some newer vehicles use different types of coolant other than the god old green Prestone. GM's for example, use a type that is colored orange (to let you know it's not the standard ethyl-glycol). Tomsriv 10-10-2005, 11:00 PM Only use the red in the toyotas. Its a special formulation. The orange in the GM cars is more common, but Toyotas use a special red formula. bobby95 10-11-2005, 12:07 AM I'd stay away from the orange. The cooling system on my Mom's Lumina was gummed up after 2 1/2 years with the orange. I did an internet search on the stuff and they had a class-action suit on GM or the makers of the stuff or both, I can't remember. Don't know what the outcome was, but I saw firsthand what it will do to a radiator. Nasty. greasefingers 10-11-2005, 09:30 AM The only OEM fluids I use are the tranny & coolant fluids. Everything else I select aftermarket stuff. fourwd1 10-11-2005, 12:52 PM I'd stay away from the orange. The cooling system on my Mom's Lumina was gummed up after 2 1/2 years with the orange. So what are GM owners using in place of the orange stuff ? bobby95 10-11-2005, 06:48 PM I don't know what everybody else is using, but I put the good old green stuff back into my Mom's Lumina. I've never had a problem with the green before, so I figure why try to fix what isn't broken? Also, I don't know if it's the same on your guys computers but on mine just below the posts under related links there's a link trying to get you involved in the class-action suit against GM. It's under Dex-Cool investigation. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
