camry 1990 performance intake problemDeafBy30 10-06-2005, 02:01 AM I have a 1990 toyota Camry 4cyl I'm having a problem figuring out how I can install my performance air intake system without having to use the Mass Airflow Sensor. what it is is just the Intake tube and the filter with a couple holes in it. I've noticed on some pictures of intake systems with the same kind of car i have, that it seems they don't use the mass airflow sensor. So would anybody know what i should do or what modifications i need to make in order to accomplish this? I know there is the easier way with just using an adapter for the airflow sensor and just putting the cone filter on, but i would rather use my whole intake system without the air flow sensor but also still have my car run right. thanks Toysrme 10-06-2005, 06:10 PM You can't. You have an Air-Flow Meter, not a MAF. You can either buy a piggyback computer to retune a new MAF / MAP along with an Intake Air Temperature sensor, and a relay to turn the fuel pump on. Or you can buy an AFM adapter. Most adapters cost $5-10 & come with a generic cone filter. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-BLUE-AIR-INTAKE-FILTER-MAF-ADAPTER-CAMRY-87-91-90_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33659QQitemZ80048734 76QQrdZ1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyota-86-94-Celica-87-91-Camry-Air-Intake-MAF-Adapter_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33710QQitemZ800 4907260QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Any intake, or modification you do to the intake is not going to make any power, but it will make your v6 sound a good bit like a Porsche (If it's running well). ctuagent117 10-06-2005, 11:04 PM intake wont do much for this car, it wasnt made like that, more of a family sedan good luck with your tuning though DeafBy30 10-08-2005, 02:12 AM thanks, i just went with the adapter that i found at a pep boys. now it sounds a little more agressive. now i just need to stabilize the intake system so it won't hang loose. Toysrme 10-08-2005, 12:21 PM Check the FAQ brain has & adjust your AFM with the info provided there. You'll get more improvement from that than an intake & cat back exhaust. DeafBy30 10-09-2005, 03:15 AM Toysrme, so is this the part you were talkin about ??? "For any vane-flap Toyota vehicle. 22RE's, 3S's, VZ blocks... And most other AFM vehicles." If it is, well I read that, but I don't exactly get what it's saying.. Automotive Network, Inc., Copyright ©2012
