325i (e36) oil leak onto exhaustrlante 10-04-2005, 01:40 PM I'm heartbroken..... My 325Ihas 312k miles of highway use. Undoubtedly the best car i ever owned. now the repair shop sent it home saying there are 2 exhaust manifold studs that are leaking oil (so much oil that it runs down the block and drips onto the exhaust just below the bell housing). I'm very conflicted abouit spending 10-15 hours of labor charges to repair a 312k , 1993 model. any advice or tips or words of encouragement? Questions- 1) Has anyone ever heard of this. 2)Is there a fix besides removing the head and having it repaired at a machine shop. 3) Is it worth spending that kind of money ? Thanks for your help--rlante @excite.com-- r barrett 10-05-2005, 12:23 AM Oil shouldn't be in the exhaust manifold anyway, studs leaking or not. And if so I don't think rebuilding the heads is the solution. Sounds more like a valve cover gasket to me. Thats where the oil is. Oil shouldn't get past the rings in enough quantity to leak out of the exaust manifold, if so, you have other problems. Does it smoke? Have you ran a compression check? Miles, in and of themselves, if the car has been properly maintained, wouldn't stop me from fixing it within reason. The condition of the car otherwise is the biggest factor to me. I would get another opinion any way, and definately check the compression. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
