problem: hesitation

having some more problems with this car....i changed the fuel pump, it was hell....changed injectors, cleaned the cold air intake, it was turning a soft shade of black....changed both the O2 sensors, plus just about any other sensor that was concerned with this small problem....after all that...still, whenever i go to take off, lie as soon as i start the car after a few hours, (all day), there is a hesitation, and then the car really takes off. just jumps into action. i changed just about everthing i could. tps, iac, map/iat, purge control solenoid, cleaned the vaccuum canister, new oil/oil filter, new tranny fluid/filter....still, just a small hesitation when i go to take off. any help would be appreciated....

Re: problem: hesitation

hey whats up. I had the same problem. The car would spudder when id floor it or come off the clutch hard. I chnaged the plugs and cleaned the wires and the car ran perfect after that. Now i recently put the msd coil with msd8.5 wires and the car runs like a dream. so try changing the spark plugs.( i used champions) clean the wires and shit. If u want test the coil and the wires with a ohm meter. mayb buy new wires if they are old. SO hopefully if you change the plugs your spudder will be gone. or if you still have it your coil might be bad. Goodluck.

I noticed when I pulled the stock plugs in my '04 that they were the cheapest Champions you can buy (Champion is cheap anyway). You know the whole "you get what you pay for" line... well, these plugs cost $0.99 at Autozone or Murray's... and in my own experience, I have had nothing but poor performance from Champion, as well as everyone I know who has dealt with them.

Personally, I would suggest the Bosch +4 Platinums ($6 each), or the NGK Iridiums (about $6). Put the +4's in my car, and noticed a great difference right away and am pleased. No Champions, No Splitfires, No Autolites... these plugs are not what they're cracked up to be.

Re: problem: hesitation

changed the coil today, runs much better. checked the plugs, still nice and clean. it was only last week that i cahnged them...although, that coil does not go with the color's of the rest of the car, and niether does the SCI ignition...it i was able to hide...this stupid coil however....big red blob just sitting there, laughing at me, because i had to go with that color....too bad, i suppse. but, it is running smoothly right now. quick take-offs, and good response as well. there is still, a slight hesitation when i just go to take off. and not a hard take off, either....just a mrmal takeoff. the kind that you do, when the cops are sitting all around you.....anything else you can think of, that would cause this....?

Well, got the Bosch +4's in my '04 Neon, and I am pleased with them thus far...

As far as changing the coil... let me say that your ORIGINAL ignition coil is very durable. Referred to by the manufacturer (now Diamond Electric)... I work there. I build these things (we call them the 36-02T). Anyway, we throw over 40,000 volts at these things before they go out the door, and they have to meet a specific spec... they are tested three times and some are X-rayed before we ship them to Chrysler. And for the over-3,000,000 of these we have shipped to Chrysler, only ONE ever made it to them that didn't work. And they are gaurenteed to last over 150,000 miles and perform at the same specs as when they were new... the only way you can ruin this particular coil is if you break something off of it or cut it in half... and I really don't think most people have ever done that. Just something I wanted to share (as a reassurance maybe)

Re: problem: hesitation

found out what it was...and although i feel so f***ing stupid, it was just a slight mishap...car started running real funny, and had no power at all. real erratic idle, and i mean absolutely no power on take-offs....the culprit....i don't want to say, but i will....one of the plug wires was barely on the coil. and, it just hap-hazardly decided to blow off, and cause an erratic idle, and take away all my precious power...and, in a damn-near stock neon, it is precious i guess. just 132hp....better then a civic any day....but still, not compareable to my brother's 91 Z28 either......i also changed the MAP/IAT sensor again, and changed the EGR....nice exsensive duo there, but it seems to be running great now...i do have one more question.....it is an automatic...massive three speed....the shifter cable was bad, and i bought a new one...well, they didn't tell me i would need to set that one with the old one. the old one already long gone over a hill...what is the proper setting for this..? it has a clip-slide mechanism on it....i slide it all the way forward, and it shifts out of first and 60mph...i slide it all the way back, and it shifts out of second at five...i tried in the middle, but still cannot get it just right....if anyone knows, please help....
