help me with my 02 neon

recently my car started leaking power steering fluid , at first it was slow then it went fast and i couldn't tell where it was leaking then one day i heard a pop under the hood and my pulley was broken in half and my belt was just laying there. what could have caused this?

bearing could of failed, also would account for the leak, once the bearing started to go it would of created a wobble in the shaft...the torque of the belt on the pully and the eratic spin could of lead up to the broken pully, just a guess here...
