OK Here's the problem. At times I can start and no problems at others it will start and run rough at idle and the RPM gauge moves up down a few even when i increase the RPM. I can shut the engine off and restart it and it will run fine. It's every interment. it may runs days with no problem and than it returns. It may start and run and 5 mile into trip it's to run bad and loose power and back fire and surge. shut it off and it will restart fine.

It has been into the garage and they said it needed a the intake manifold pan gasket replaced. Will i did that myself to save $500 bucks.

My wife drove it for 3 weeks it ran fine than it started back up. we than drove it on a short trip no trouble. 1 week later i went to move the truck
started it up and it ran bad right away just idling , shut it off and restarted and it ran fine since.

This is a lot of crap to read but maybe someone out there may have some sort of clue.

Intermittent problems are the toughest sometimes to track down.

Is there any consistency about how full the gas tank is? If there's some gunk clogging the intake of the fuel pump in the tank, it could cause the problem you're describing. I've also seen some posts for the 95/96 where the fuel pump can overheat (solved by replacing).

Hope that helps....

No I haven't noticed this but will keep on eye on it, Is there a fuel filter that can be changed? I heard that there is not.

I'm not sure, but I think there's a screen type filter in the tank.
