My 2500 2001 Diesel is getting sluggish.Ram One 09-25-2005, 12:17 AM I've recently noticed that when I accelerate my Diesel engine seems to be missing. I have'nt had any major problems before and had the transmission serviced last year. When I say missing I don't believe it's the tranny. It's more like bad fuel. I've used the gumout a few times but it's a temp fix. Any suggestions? weare4himinmex 10-02-2005, 11:39 PM A Miss In A Diesel Is Most Times Related To Fuel .have You Changed Fuel Filter? Have You Checked For Leaks ? Look Over All Lines Fitings On Everything.also Check Transfer Pump To Check Pressure Output. Any Time You Loose Power Change Filter First. Dave dbfordtech 10-05-2005, 10:27 PM I agree with Dave, Quite often when the Cummins gets lazy, the lift pump (or transfer pump) is bad. If the rest of the fuel system is sound, and Fuel is good, look there next. Austin8214 12-10-2006, 02:42 PM Sorry to brig back an old thread but i have a question related to this. Question is with the fuel filter out should the lift pump fill the filter bowl? My 04 just stopped running today and left me a foot. I got towed home and pulled the filter turned the key on and the bowl did not fill with fuel. BleedDodge 12-10-2006, 03:13 PM You should have started a new thread. Anyway. I think your main pump is bad, and that's why it quit running. I don't think the lift pump will kick on unless it has something to prime to, but I'm not sure. I'm more educated on the GM diesels if you can believe that. Chris Stewart 12-22-2006, 01:38 AM I've recently noticed that when I accelerate my Diesel engine seems to be missing. The test port is the banjo fitting with the black cap on it on your injector pump. You can also turn your keyswitch on-off-on-off-on then look at your odometer for any trouble codes. You may not know but your $1200 Injector Pump depends on lots of fuel running through it to keep it cool and lubricated and with today's fuel, I add a fuel treatment to add more lubrication to the fuel. If your lift pump is bad, I hope it didn't ruin your injector pump too. Get the lift pump fuel pressure checked or get a fuel injection test kit for GM cars with the Schrader Valve connector and test it yourself. For lots of info and pics, send me a PM.
