98 Camry carburetor Cleaning

Hi,

I wants to clean my 98 camry carburetor with Seafoam. I didn't know how to do it. Could somebody post the instructions how to do it.

Your 98 Camry is fuel injected. It doesn't have a carburetor. It does have a throttle body. The car can benefit from cleaning that periodically. If you would like to do that, do a search on this forum for "throttle body cleaning" and you should come up with some good instructions that include good pictures.

If you have an i4, you want to put 1/4 of the can (1/2 a cup) of
Drive around the block to warm the engine up.
Seafoam into another container.
With the engine idling, pull the brake boost line & suck / pour the seafoam into the engine. If the engine doesn't immediately stall (which is what you want) IMMEDIATELY turn the engine off.
Wait 5 min.
Crank the engine. After about 10 min, the smoking should die down. Drive the car until it stops smoking. Be sure to hold a few gears through the redline to the fuel cut to make sure everything that can burn off-will burn off.

Do this 3, or 4 times.

Add a 1/2 a can into fresh oil, the other 1/2 a can into the gas tank when you stop to fill up.

You also have the wrong idea. No cleaner is going to be able to clean the intake, or the parts on it (EGR valve, idle valve, throttle plate).

You have to take it off & do it by hand. It needs to be done every few years as general maintence so the valves don't stick, but cleaning the carbon out of the intake normally get's 5-10bhp back that you loose from carbon build-up.

Hi,

I am able to disconnect the hose. But I am unable to wedge it out of the way of the entrance to the throttle body. Could please some body explain me how to do it.

Take the top half of the airbox off. 4 latches, one on each corner. Be sure to unplug the MAF's electrical connector so you don't rip it off tugging.
